Did someone mention that they had done ChocClaires chinese chicken with pork chops. Just wondering how it turned out as I have plenty of chops and guests for tea tomorrow evening. Was thinking of the chicken but as the chops are already in would be more moneysaving.

Living on the same planet ?? Look at this headline  telling us that in March food prices showed a dramatic FALL !! Wonder where that was?

Im guessing the writer is not of this planet cos I have just been in Mr S and nothing is cheaper. they are probably faking the figures before some one takes the supermarkets to task on prices!!!! I touched lucky and got in mr S just as they were doing the reductions so we have meat for another week - success :j

Just done the 50 mile round trip to check on Mum ( my brother lives 5 minutes away and rarely even phones her ) She hasn't been too good this weekend and I needed to see her face to face, she is actually pretty good now. of course we came back with a boot full of bounty ! Mainly stuff for Dgs whom she adores - all bargains of course. Apparently she gets drawn into Primark by an invisible force :rotfl:

Shergar, I am so sorry to hear your news. Carers are the most undervalued members of society and happily ignored by the powers that be. Do you have a local carers group ( we have Manchester carers online) they give advice and support and are wonderous people. The forum is very good to as everyone knows exactly what you are going through. All I can say is look after yourself, its just as stressful having your OH away from home I imagine, i know when mine was in hospital I found life very difficult , but I was working away at the time. sending hugs x

    (Insert bad language at this point)

:(:(:( Idiot Boy came to an arrangement with TOCD and the court case was adjourned at the last minute. :(:(:(

Have spoken to the H.O and we'll meet after my shift tomorrow too discuss how to take this one forward. I.B gets a visit from H.O this afternoon with a pre-prepared letter to say that it is not over from point of view of the ASB case, in case he thinks his agreement with TOCD means that it is.

Hopefully this will also serve as a shot across the bows in case he thinks he can do what the heck he likes re noise.

Anyway, the council's senior solicitor is still down the courts (big lot of work today) and H.O needs to take legal advice from him about how to proceed, hence we meet tomorrow rather than today.

:( I'd feared the worst as I.B was nicely relaxed last night and clearly feeling no strain.

:) Ah well, worse things happen at see. I shall be buying SuperGran a bunch of flowers and a card and taking her to the pub for a drinkie as today's her birthday. Could do with a drink myself.

:D Keep calm and carry on, as the poster has it.............

    :mad::(:mad::(:mad::( Dagnab it:cool:

So - will you maybe have a better idea whether this is going to work out or no for you tomorrow then? (ie Wednesday by the time you read this....). Do hope this is still going to be okay...

The little ***** - I reckon you are allowed a drink (or several) in the circumstances.

Hope this isnt going to mean a necessity to reach for Plan B.

I guess the karma for architects/builders/etc that build a load of attached houses/flats/etc - and DONT put in adequate soundproofing (if any) must consist of never being able to get away from noise. Think they must all live in detached houses and I know, from experience, that if that is what one is used to then the thought probably never even crosses your mind that some people can (and do) disturb their neighbours....:o. I can understand why it wouldnt occur to some architects/builders that this is possible - as it came as a very unpleasant surprise/shock to me when I reached adulthood and moved out into a series of accommodation options of my own (out of 4 different places I've lived as an adult - 3 of them disturb me at intervals, including my current one.....) - though, thank goodness, not to nearly the extent you have. Think I'd have been had up for murder by now if I were in your shoes...(you must have a lot more patience than I've got - and not nearly such a temper.....).

Disappointing news, Greyqueen, but hopefully IB is taking this as a warning shot and will modify his behaviour. Or do pigs have wings in your neck of the woods? Maybe tomorrow will bring better news.

Hi. I have just been reading up on haybox ovens. I am so inspired!
Natures very own answer to slow cooking for free!!!!
I read that one guy keeps a home made box in his kitchen using those bean bag beads instead of hay. He pops a cushion on the top of the box too to make it double as a kitchen seat!!!

Please please post if you've tried this!! I can't find any other threads pm this subject but as it is a completely free way of cooking which is not too way out and can be done in the comfort of your kitchen too, I am astounded!!!!

    QUOTE]

I tried this today so thought I'd post and let people know how I got on.
My hubby brought a box home from work which is designed for delivering cold store items, it is a cardboard box with a polystyrene inside and one of my pans fits perfectly in it so was lucky really.
I cooked a curry on the stove by bringing it to the boil, put the lid on, wrapped it in a towel and then put in the box. I got it out 4 hours later just to check and it was still hot (too hot to touch) and I checked it, the carrots were 'al dente' so I brought it to the boil again and put it back for 2 more hours. Pefect! Done to a turn and still hot when served.
Next time I will leave it for about 6 hours for beef but less for chicken without reboiling it. I am so pleased and will definitely do this again now I know what I'm doing, I was a bit worried about the polystyrene melting but not a problem as wrapped in a towel.
Have a go, it will save me a fortune over the year in energy ;)

  • DH, what an excellent idea, I will definitely have a go.

GQ, what a disappointment. I hope he will see this as a warning and mend his ways, but if not, don't give up. Have a drink or three.

    Shegar, thinking of you.

I am reading A Garden in the Hills, Katharine Stewart, could not get the one Mardatha recommended from the library but may splash out and buy it now.as this is a lovely, serene read about a very low tech home and garden through the seasons -very relaxing.

Sammy K and Lauren, lovely to see your babes the other day - aren't they gorgeous?

The croft in the hills one was actually better, is now one of my all time fav books. Talking of sitting with her daughter by a glowing peat fire, while the biggest blizzard ever is raging outside the windows...magic . Lovely lady :)

Has anyone seen Tudor Rose? I have been thinking about her, and her wee shop, I hope she's not been on because business has picked up a bit :o
