I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

ceridwen..I was just going to say the same thing! Good luck kidcat!!!!

On a tough theme..does anyone have any money saving decorating tips. I am going to have to decorate my hall stairs and landing. Its not a big space but the stairwell goes from floor to upstairs ceiling! Not really looking forward to it ..paint seems so expensive these days so do people think its better to go for a branded ie dulux paint or diy store brand. I am going to have to get the house valued soon so want to tidy it up without spending a fortune but need a new carpet for the hall, stairs and landing too.
Am also thinking of making some new cushion covers for the living room sofa's....I would love a new sofa too but it will have to wait till I have managed to save up!

Brilliant news kidcat! :j Will keep my fingers crossed!

Sounds like all of the junior OSers are doing brilliantly with all of these glowing reports :)

Not a lot OS doing here today, but will be heading off to L!dl tomorrow to take advantage of the washing powder offer.

I know it's a really dim question, but I've only ever used tablets before - will it come with a little measuring cup in it? I know I will only want to use half of what they tell me to, but won't know what that is! :o:o:o

Big boxes of powder tend to have a scoop included but if not you could use a plastic cup (anything that size is ideal) and you will probably need just an inch of powder in the bottom..might be a bit of trial and error on that point as I dont know what the powder is;)

For measuring out washing powder I use a small kitchen scoop. The type where you normally get a set of 6 in a set, the one I'm using says 1/4 cup or 60ml. Like bertiebots says it doesn't look a lot about an inch of powder but it does the job and a lot less than is recommended on the packet.

Dulux trade centres may be cheaper. If you have anywhere near you selling Albany trade brand, that is very good. The other possibility is to kidnap a handy OAP and go to B&Q on a Wednesday - their Diamond Card holders (ie over 60) get 10% discount
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Just under 3 months since OH's last contract ended and he's had no work since :( He's getting very despondent now.

So sorry for your OH Greent, has he thought about getting involved in some voluntary work. I've been out of work since November (although paid until end Feb) and I started some voluntary work in January. It's done me the world of good, it's really nice to be valued and welcomed. I don't know what his skills are but no matter what someone will be pleased to have his help.

My OH also started some volunteering and then managed to get a job almost at the same time. He was very down after a long time out of work but again the volunteering really brightened his spirits.

Or a Johnstones/Leyland Paints trade centre - I've got all my paint from there for the last ten years having done up two houses - take a look in the phone book they are in most towns. Much cheaper and they will mix shades for you. You can take in a shade chart or tester from one of the 'premium' ranges, like F&B, and get it mixed. It is very good quality paint and was originally recommended to me by a decorator.

Don't be put off because it says it is a trade centre - you won't feel the slightest bit uncomfortable and you can get lots of advice from people who actually know what they are talking about.

Thanks for that ChocClare - I think I may well do just that! :) I think my largest casserole dish will only hold 4 (without them sitting on top of each other) but I have 2 the same size, so could fit them in the oven at the same time, or  - would a roasting tin covered in foil be tight enough to stop the juice/gravy from evaporating do you think?

You don't need a very big casserole dish - I put four in the bottom and four on top and then turn them over until they get some sauce on them, then put them in the oven. They shrink a bit in the oven anway.

:)ChocClare, that recipe is brilliant and I love it and I've got the other half to eat tonight and it's a happy thought. I'd had the thighs out of the freezer and in the fridge whilst I was at work but they still weren't quite thawed so I cooked them for ages until the meat was about to fall off the bone. The scent of the cooking was a torment and I half-expected to be stormed by the neighbours wanting a share, it was that gorgeous. My cheapy pack was 4 good sized thighs and two titchy ones (probably the chicken equivalent of Kate Moss....:rotfl:) so I cooked them all and ate three at a time.

:) So, that's a definate addition to the A4 folder with plastic sleeves where I keep my recipes and it will be captioned "ChocClare's Chinese Chicken" and passed from hand-to-hand (unless you'd prefer to be anonymous in my folder; let me know.)

I am HONOURED that you want to call it ChocClare's Chinese Chicken :rotfl:

(It should really be called Penelope's Chinese Chicken as it's my mum's recipe :D)

It is one of the few recipes I have where the result far exceeds the effort involved, if you know what I mean - glad you enjoyed it, anyway.
