ChocClare - how many thighs do you use for your Chinese Chicken recipe please? I'd be using four for OH & myself, but just wondering if I'd need to up the juice/gravy quantities if I cooked it for 4 people and used 8 thighs? Helenjelly is from the GC by the way

I use eight for four of us with that quantity of liquid. It's a bit of a squish when you're zhuzhing it round in the marinade but, as I say, it produces a lot of gravy.

If you're making it for yourself and OH, then I'd still make it with eight, tbh, because it freezes and reheats so brilliantly, and you've then got another supper you only have to heat through.

Oh, and thank you for telling me where I'd seen Helen before. Memory like a sieve!

I'm sorry to be a numpty but I've done a search and I can't find the post that was giving details of battery chickens that needed rehoming by 28th of this month. Please can anyone point me in the right direction? I think it was in the last 2 weeks and the OP said something about putting it on Facebook as well (I'm fairly sure it was in this thread as I don't follow many others:o)

on the CT subject the cheapest band in my area is still over £1k for the year, really rather depressing.


on the mse side tho, OH and i have now cleared down our debts to half what they were when we first met!! guess thats my good influence

OS wise i've been ruminating about baking more, the only problem being i want to lose some weight!

I remember that too, but wasn't it by the 28th of FEBRUARY? I've just done a search and like you, can't find anything except a post about Hen Rehomers Uk, which was end Feb.

I've just been on the Hen Rehomers website and there is another collection 9th April, if you're interested.

I have had lots of ex-batts - only six remaining now, out of 17 I've had altogether. One of my six is from the first group of six hens I collected, but sadly, many of them don't live all that long. Still, they went from being in a cage the size of an A4 piece of paper to half an acre of garden and riverbank to rummage in to their heart's content, so they finished out their lives happily. You can tell when they're on the way out as they just slow down and start to look old, and then one day they just lie down at bedtime and don't get up in the morning with the others Not a bad way to go...
