I mentioned this on a post in another thread. Not sure if this is the right place to put this.
If anyone has any hens and interested in getting a couple more please see this article and the Youtube link.
I am collecting 12 next weekend (£2 each) for friends. There are still about 3000 to home and they will go to slaughter on the 28th March if homes cant be found.
Anyone that wants to home a chicken please get intouch with them

I am sure there are lots of people who would love to home them. I dont think the word is being spread widely enough.
thanks

I have popped this on my facebook in the hope some people may see it and save the choooks! I am not close enough and cos i rent my home, wouldnt be able to so hopefully someone else out there will be able to!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0

Bloomin supermarkets dictating again!
What difference does it make to them how old the chickens are? And they're only paying 88p per dozen? They're making a pretty good mark up there aren't they?
Shame it's not closer, we'd have taken some, but I've sent hubby the link and he's going to tweet it.0 -
Thank you! It's a five hour round trip for me! I couldn't resist! I'm picking up 13 and one is for me! Jo from the farm emailed me back. Said they are going quickly so that's really good! Hope they all find homesMarch 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009

Hubby got a tweet back from someone who said they've emailed Jo.
It's a shame your thread was merged with the eglu one as it doesn't have anything to do with eglus and people who don't have an eglu might miss it because they don't feel that they have anything to contribute to a thread about eglus. Phew, that was a long sentence!0 -
yes i am disapointed as the topics are only slightly related. My own fault for saying that i mentioned it in another thread. It does deserve its own thread but its not my decision unfortunately.
This is being discussed on the omlet forum, I hope other chicken keeping forums are mentionning it too. Its on my facebook and i know some of my friends have added it to theirs. keep spreading the wordMarch 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009

OMG... the supermarkets are buying them for 88p a dozen!!!
We are paying nearly £3 for that same dozen free range eggs in the supermarket!!! You aren't telling me the packaging costs more than pennies - they are raking it in.
It's too far to go for me - petrol prices are keeping me at home in the Midlands but if it were closer I'd be there like a shot.Well behaved women rarely make history.0 -
The mark up is disgraceful isn't it. I find it very sad that good British farms like this one, where farmers clearly care a great deal about their livestock and have high standards of welfare, are going to the wall because of the bullying tactics of the big supermarkets. Makes me mad it does.
These hens from the Silverstone farm Sammiboo mentions above are beautiful, very gentle and friendly birds. I have 3 myself and a friend of mine also has a couple. They would be perfect for anyone just starting out with chickens.
