Good point - it was quite common to be an older mother before widespread reliable contraception - just not an older first time mother. It's the years in between when families got smaller that meant average age of motherhood fell, until us babyboomers started having babies in our 30s. There's been enough of us since then that you would think they would have stopped treating an elderly primagravida as someone who should know betterIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thanks Brandyberry. I am starting to have a few misgivings. Yes they come and fit it too. Do you think £190 is too much. Got a sick feeling in my stomach now....
I had cavity wall insulation done the same way - only paid the balance which if memory serves was £190. Mine I organised via a leaflet through the door........I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

try this http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/poultry-and-game/chicken/chicken-basque.html
Big advantage is that it is very forgiving of extra cooking time, so it re-heats really well.

And my last moan, or rant, of the day, ..........THE OLYMPICS why are we spending so much money on this:mad::mad:the poor country is on its knees , with hospitals, drs, schools, libraries, councils, buses, in trouble ....... oh I could go on............. Yes as another member said .....well council tax is not going up this year..... I SHOULD think not either.....weve got enough on our plate to contend with this year..........sorry guys n gals but I needed that...:o
I'm sorry you are going thru such a rough time Shegar - Don't feel you shouldn't ask for help though... You need help hun or you will end up poorly yourself
And re the Olympics... Don't even get me started - I am sure they would argue that it will bring people to England who will spend money here but I bet it won't make as much as we have spent... and you are right, the country is ON ITS KNEES already so the last thing we need is to spend out on that :mad:0 -
Ohyes it will be a bad year, with central goverment cutting back on our local councils most departments will suffer greatly in the new financial year.........
I do know that for certain, because as you know my husband had a severe stroke at 49 yrs old just over 2 years ago, and he needs 24/7 care, ,which I provide 24/7, im not too well myself but we have not been offered much at all for the new year..........
Had a social worker call the other day to see if they can give me a bit of help cos im really tired and struggling at times and if im lucky they MAY be able to get someone to come in in the mornings to get hubby showered ,dressed etc, so that I can do my medical needs.........
But I shant hold my breath!!....she tells me their budget has been cut again this year, so they I have to wait until Apr 5 to see if they have enough funding.........
What tends to happen is I get very worn down after about 5 to 6 weeks of caring and in desperation I phone social services and say "please can you take hubby for a week cos im about to drop."..........obviously they do.......so now they want to try to get him out to a day care centre for a day a week to give me a day to either , sit down, go shopping, or even the hairdressers........that would be lovely for me..........
But theres a waiting list to get him in to one of these groups, plus their funding as been cut so they want to reduce how many days they have groups...:mad:......
We are also about to lose our library, our buses have been reduced too.........
So I feel I shouldnt really be asking for help at such a bad time for our country..............
Our fuel is so dam high its all gone mad, we pay £1.42 ltr diesel...:mad:.......
Why cant the goverment see we are going downhill fast.......all our food is delivered by transport, and transport cost money, fuel, wages, wear and tear on lorries, and TAX to get food to us ...............
I really dread to see where it will all end........
To be fair though, the Olympics were planned before the financial crisis.
They can't exactly say, "Sorry, we've changed our minds" There would be all sorts of legal and financial ramifications. Can't say I approve or disapprove, but I am still a bit gobsmacked by the way people who live in London have had to pay an extra levy to cover the cost.

Shegar - If you have a local LETS group, they often have people on there who will do 'adult' sitting and keep your DH company whilst you go out for an afternoon or something... I doubt they'd help with the practical stuff but if it was a few hours to give you a break...0

A box of non bio powder for £3 odd and it's a 60 wash box. We could easily get 120 from it by halving amounts. I personally use the value shampoo (22p a litre!!) but if hubby gets to the machine before me he insists on having 'real' laundry products, lol!
They've also got pork loin steaks too in for the weekend at £1.39 a pack.
HTH
Just cheat and put the economical stuff in the branded box, I do it all the time with all sorts from shampoo to cereals with my lot.
My freind used to take the labels off everything and write on what it was in black marker pen so no one got dog food instead of baked beans.0 -

I am a geriatric mum too, 38 and 42. I had a fantastic midwife, she was very hands off, but supportive.
I too would do it again in a flash, lots more patience but naff all energy LOL.
Sounds like there are a few midwives with attitude problems, easy sorted though, my house, my rules, if you don't like it, you know where to find the door.0
