Speed Cameras ... ::sigh::

I think his tachograph/speedometer needs re-calibrating.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

. Your allowed upto 10%+2mph before its an offence as far as I know to account for speedo inaccuracy and inaccuracy of their equipment so if it was 34 that would be ok but 35 is an offence tho.
Its got nothing to do with speedo accuracy and in fact if your speedo underreads AT ALL, then it is an offence. A speedo can OVERREAD up to 10% on a car and 2.5% on a HGV ( show 60MPH when you're doing 54 actual) but they cannot underread (show 60MPH when you're doing even 61MPH actual) at all.0 -
Talking of local chavs speeding at 45+ in 30 zones, if you want to scare them buy and old flash gun from a charity shop and then flash it as they go past, they **** themselves and brake hard.0

Took your advice and went to my local charity shop this morn.
However, when I asked the assistant 'I wish to purchase an old flash gun' the reply was, 'What the hell you on about?!'
I have since rung around several other charity shops asking to purchase an old flash gun and eveyone thinks I'm nuts.
Please advise further.0 -

And when they lose control under braking, I hope it's your car they hit rather than some other poor sod('s car).0 -
Talking of local chavs speeding at 45+ in 30 zones,
Trouble is that "chavs" are a mere drop in the ocean, ALL of the average speed drivers (do 45mph everywhere) are middle to old age!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The insurance companies would disagree with you.0 -
Depends on the time and place whether they prosecute probably, not to mention they have occasional purges. Also, perhaps the simple measure of speed was not the only criteria.......how well judged was the speeding incident at the time?
Strider590 comes up with a valuable point though, because, in my judgement, speed is only an offence if ill judged. That means, the if the speed limit is 30mph, it doesn't mean you should drive at 30mph, when 10mph is more appropriate. It also means that the dual carriageway near me rated at 40mph, can be safely driven at any speed, when there is nothing else on the road. (Not advising you do so of course, but 45mph wouldn't be a sin in my book.)
No Strider590 makes the point, that there are some lunatics out there are the road, who's driving is FAR more dangerous then speed offences, but I don't know of any legislation that makes an offense of 'bad driving' unless they actually get involved in an accident, and have to answer for it.
Can you see a policeman stopping someone and saying 'your driving is carp'?0 -
I wouldn't say they do it often, though the few times they do do it, they often have a camerman with them.
We need a lot more police out there concentrating on bad driving, and a lot fewer automatons out there concentrating on one very specific offence that is often not problematic.0
