No point at all, so long as you can be certain that there is no other road user that will benefit from your signal.

Yep, watch out for my flat mate :rotfl:

But ultimately it depends on the conditions. If it's 2am and there's nothing on the road bar roadkill, what's the point in indicating to fresh air.

Because it keeps you in good habit.
Not bothering to indicate because it's 2am will soon put you in the habit not to indicate at 2pm, then not at all.

I heard that the police are going to use them instead of spike strips.:D

I have a policy of nearly pulling out in front of cars turning right without indicating. Whoops, I thought you were going straight on.

There is an arguement that your first view of them would be their first view of you.
It's bad practice to indicate out of habit and shows you are not really looking at your surroundings.

No it won't, just gets you into the habit of indicating and not really looking.

I hate people who take the left hand lane then indicate right.... I never know what the hell they're doing and you get that awkward "am I about to get cut up?" moment.

I hate people who fail to indicate when they're in a lane that could go any of 2 or more directions.... I could have pulled out if i'd known they were going straight on!

There is a long dual lane slip road off the A2 near me, it must be nearly half a mile long. At the bottom of this slip road, there is a roundabout and you have two options, take the first exit, due left, or take the second and last exit, to go due right.
I always want to take the second exit, so drive in the outside lane, and indicate right about a hundred yards from the bottom.
I cannot count the number of occasions, when cars have tried to cut me up, by suddenly trying to dive up the inside and then sharply across the front of my car, due to the fact that they are in the wrong lane, and do not wish someone to overtake them.
Lack of lane discipline, and lack of indicating/incorrect indicating is a major problem.
Another pet hate, are the idiots at smaller roundabouts, who edge over to the right, indicate right, and then amble on to the roundabout, and suddenly indicate left, and go straight on, almost cutting your nose off.
Only use the outside lane, if you want to go more than halfway around the roundabout, or if you are totally sure that you can make due progress without hindering any other drivers.
