I sent my prelim letter to Natwest nearly two weeks ago, they have until Tuesday to do something (so far I have had the thank you we will look into it letter)
But judging by the Natwest forum on the Consumer Action Group website, it looks like Natwest are paying most of the claims in full and a lot quicker, most are getting paid on the prelim or the letter before action stage.0 -
hi need a bit of advice - i have put in a claim for my bank charges plus interest (£255). I sent the letter and received a letter back saying that they were looking into it and to bear with them (mr higgley). I have heard nothing since then and am time wise into the sending the court letter, i have a couple of questions...
how do you find out your local courts address?
Do you have to register a claim straight await with MCOL?
Is it worth it when if i loose out at court i will end up out of pocket?
thanks0 -

You register a claim with MCOL only after you have sent two letters to the bank asking for the charges to be returned. The second letter gives them another 7 days, or you will issue a court claim. Do not skip either of these letters.
The chances of losing in court are very slim. If you stay strong with your claim, the bank will most likely settle your claim in full (99.9% chance of success). The amount you are claiming is very small. It wouldn't be worth the bank even paying their solicitor to turn up in court and defend this amount (their costs would be higher than what you are claiming, and you wont have to pay their costs). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Natwest offered me £668 yesterday which was what I was asking for without interest. I have accepted this. I only sent the first letter (using this sites templates) as I already had 6 yrs worth of statements (knew that one day it would pay off have a file full lol) and they replied and offered me within the 14 days, it will be paid directly into my account by the end of next week apparently. Good Luck everyone xxx0

Can I ask a question? Hopefully someone can answer.
Natwest shut my account last Jan. I'm still payng my O/D off. I owe about £900 now. I'm gonna reclaim my charges at the end of the mth - need to send off for my statements.
When/if they pay back my charges, will the money go towards the overdraft and the remainder be sent to me in the form of a cheque/? I'm pretty sure I have charges totalling over 1k
Is anyone in a similar situation halfway through claiming at the mo?
Thanks!0 -

Most of the banks seem to be paying the money into the account it is claimed from. If the account is closed, you should expect them to take what you owe, and send a cheque for the remainder. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

That's what I thought...that's great. Least I'll get some pocket change after the O/D's paid off!
Thank you :j0 -
If anyone can offer me some advice on how to reclaim charges from Natwest I'd be ever so grateful. Here is my situation:
Current account with overdraft of £2000
Natwest visa card almost to £3000 limit
I am almost to the limit on both of these so am reluctant to tackle them about the charges if it is likely they will close the accounts and demand immediate repayment of the debt I owe them (which I cannot afford to do at present). I have read Martin's advice about what to do if you have an overdraft but it seemed very complicated! I need some simple steps to follow, perhaps from someone who has been in this situation and can provide some encouragement. I have read a lot of the information on this site, and am now feeling a bit overloaded with advice - I am not the best at dealing with money and am unsure about what my next step should be.0 -
Hi everyone,
This is my first post, so please be nice to me.
I have a quick question. I have got my statements back from from Natwest and have worked out how much I have paid in bank charges (over £1300). On Monday I will be sending out the letter to ask for them to pay it back. My question is do I send the spread sheet with or without the interest calculated on it.
Regards Stax0
