NatWest (merged)

I have to admit to not taking Natwest to court. I threatened it, on 7 March when I first wrote requesting £990.00 in charges plus interest.
No answer.
I wrote again (more than 14 days later) on 2 April and asked for it again or else.
Again, no answer.
Started to worry then that I would have to take them to court and I had spent the rest of this month's wages on a prom dress for my daughter...
Anyway, on Saturday, I received an offer in the post with the usual jargon '...we do not agree with the basis of your complaint blah blah blah,.....but as a goodwill gesture will pay £990 directly into your account'.
Yes please and thank you very much. Posted the reply by recorded delivery yesterday.....
I wonder if they will take another 8 weeks to pay me?!!!
Will keep you posted.

Hi guys, ive started the ball rolling and got my last 6 years bank statements but the charges are very vague, im fairy sure( i.e not very!) that i can claim refferal charges which range from £30 up to £100, but all the other charges simply say charge a/c number ******* and varying charges from £9 up to £38, im presuming the £9 to £12 charges are normal account charges so im not going to bother with these but i have a lot at £29 to £38 which simply state charge which i dont know about, any help maybe from people who have claimed back from natwest would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.0

hi and thanks for your response..
im sorry i thought it was you who contacted FO..
I sent my ist letter 12 th april.. LBA action sen 25th April..no response..
It was the last straw for me y'day on the fone to them and got nowhere.
so i rang FO..they said couldnt do anything yet till 56 days but i did read (and i think your right was katie~baby) who contacted FO before 56 days had elapsed and they helped..
Even if they cant help me at this stage in getting my money back theu were interested on the fone y'day that id had no response whatsoever..so they may see to that at least..
I see you got an email back...I sent them an email on 3rd May adding on more charges that had incurred since my original claim...y'day they said they dont receive emails from customers and their email address was for internel use only
I KNEW THEY WERE LYING..THATS WHY I CONTACTED FO>>
im glad you got your response.
I told FO what they said re emails and i noted it on my complaint form..
Im gonna wait and see what FO come back and say and then start MCOL..
I was really nervous about court and solicotors letters etc but ive got this far with everybodys help on MSE..
I will keep you informed all the way..

Im glad you have complained i think i might do so now. Its a joke ive been waiting since March and still not had anything from them. I really dont want to claim through MCOL not cos im scared but i cant afford it, i really need this money now going away soon and have not a penny dues to unforseen circumstances (see previous post) I just want to know when im gonna get my offer letter - the waiting is getting to me because i know im gonna have to wait for ages for them to credit the money too.
Been reading the success stories and i just feel like im the only one waiting now and not heard anything ive just read some stories from people who wrote 1 LETTER and got their money within a WEEK. I just dont understand the system they are using!
I really hope ive got some nice post to go home to as im not ringing them again to get fobbed off.
Oh and my email was sent on the 2nd may so you never know you might actually get yours sometime soon!
Think we should both keep fighting and fingers crossed they will get round to our claim very soon xLBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0 -

If you are claiming interest you can use the calculator on the bank charges homepage and save and print it out to add with your letter. I didnt use the calculator just listed my charges like this:
Date Amount of Charge (you can even add the reason too if you like)
Then i just put the total amount in bold at the bottom.LBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0 -

Yes, I believe you are. if you were to pursue the case via the courts, you would be entitled to specify how you wish to be paid, so I can't see it's any different here. As long as you are specific about wanting a cheque, then I believe they should comply.0 -

You are certainly not alone. Many of us are waiting, and I'm sure will be kept waiting longer. One of the most scandalous apects of this farce is that NatWest (and I'm sure many other banks) appear to be treating each case in an entirely arbitrary manner, as if they throw a dice to decide how they'll deal with each one as it comes in. Some people roll a '6' and get paid straight away; others of us evidently only threw a '1', so we're being strung along for the longest possible time. It doesn't even appear to be related to amounts: it would seem more logical for a case like mine to be fought for a long time; but then others appear to have claimed as much or more, but to have been paid within a few weeks. Meanwhile, some people only claiming back a few hundred pounds have been kept wating for ages too.
Now, you would have thought that a professional organisation would have thought, "hmmm, we've got a problem on our hands here, and we don't want to look stupid, so we'll set up a special department to deal with these cases in an equitable and fair manner." However, with each day that passes, it makes you wonder who we've been entrusting our money to all these years, doesn't it? This has been going on for more than a year now, and our next step should be demand that Parliament undertakes a major inquiry into the way our high street banks are run. As far as I'm concerned, they should invoke the Piracy Act. I shall certainly be writing to my MP. The banks have been getting away with treating law-abiding citizens like criminals, pushing financially disadvantaged people further into debt, and giving themselves powers to impose fines that only the Courts should wield. Disgraceful.
All you can do is have faith in the advice given here, and the many hundreds -- thousands, in fact -- of cases that the bank has settled sooner or later. Bide your time, and stay calm.
Vengeance, as they say, is a dish best served cold.0 -

Very true i am going to wait and do whatever it takes to get my money back off the robbing sods!
I do hope a law is passed to stop this happening in the future because i dont want to be going through this everytime. What makes it more ridiculous is the fact that they are still applying these charges even though you are claiming previous ones from them do they not have the initiative to say 'hang on i dont think we should apply this amount and this many charges to this account' but no they carry on regardless!
I wish everyone the best of luck claiming and i hope we are all successful :TLBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0
