How many of you buy fresh cut flowers?
Comments

I always bought a £3 bunch every week for years but I've recently given up the habit to save a little bit more - money is tight right now and I still have the plant baskets from Christmas on display.0

I buy them when on offer or whoopsied.
I got a dozen red roses for my DDs for Valentines for £2.50 from Aldi
I have also had beautiful lilies from MrT for £2 for a massive bouquet
I always grow flowers for cutting in the garden so in the summer I cut them and bring them in... much more satisfying than buying themPutting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

I only ever buy cut daffodils (my favourite) once in a blue moon.
I'm not a big fan of huge fancy bouquets, despite this my mum bought me one that was FULL of huge lillies (I don't like lillies) when I was in hospital after a stressful emergency caesarean for DD(9).
I know she meant well, but it was really rather stressful trying to reach a drink or something and being showered with stainy lily stamen powder!! And the smell was so strong, I wanted to throw up long after the morphine had worn off...ugh.
I prefer foliage plants rather than cut flowers generally, I have a small ficus I've had for years that is extremely resiliant.0 -
I've bought flowers regularly over the last year but always from the reduced section at the supermarket and never spent more than £3.50. As the bunches usually have chrysanthemums (very serviceable flowers) they last a good time.
The latest bunch was £2.50 but started life at £10. If OH won't buy me flowers, I'll get my ownI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I used to buy cut flowers but decided that all the air miles etc sort of took the fun out of them, so I grow sweet peas and have those in July and August. I occasionally buy a pot plant for the house. I have horses and they take all my spare money TBH."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

I buy cut flowers occasionally, but only when they're reduced / on special offer and preferably when they're British grown or fairly traded (fussy, ain't I?
). I've got some British daffodils I got on BOGOF sitting on the fireplace at the moment - I can't resist anything yellow!
I've been trying to plant up my little garden with things I can cut and bring indoors since I moved in a couple of years ago: so far I've got daffodils and tulips for spring and dahlias for late summer, and I hope to fill the gaps in the next year or so.Back after a very long break!0 -
I always have fresh flowers in my living room, at the moment its my valentine flowers from my dh, but i also have 2 bunches of daffodils which are my all time favourite.
I wont pay a fortune, but i know my dh did for my valentine flowers.
Nothing like a bunch of flowers to brighten a room.0 -

Our sweet peas lasted right up until end sept/early oct last year....the stragglers weren't as well stemmed but still delightful.0 -
I'm too mean to do it regularly, so it's only occasionally for me - they feel like such an extravagance, but I agree that they really lift a room - and I'm often surprised at how long they last.
However, I've just bought 150 gladiololi bulbs for the garden - a whopping £12.50 spend!!!!! I'm really looking forward to planting them a month apart and having Edna Everidge-like quantities of these extravagant, overblown delights in the garden and in the house for months through the season! We grow sweet peas, and they're lovely in a vase - the smell of home-grown is so nice.
Talking about this has made me get all excited about the spring and summer coming... maybe it's a bit early!!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0
