How many of you buy fresh cut flowers?

I like to have them in the house but don't like spending a lot, so I pick some up whenever I see a cheap or reduced bunch that look like they've plenty of life left in them!
Some things, like chrysanthemums or carnations last for ages & so are good value anyway, and we get more exciting blooms when on offer or reduced for quick sale. (This week has been good for Valentine left overs.) I've even been known to buy a couple of bunches that have some wilting flowers in them, and weed out the good stuff to make a decent bouquet.
Yhey do lift my spirits and although a plant would perhaps be more sensible, I like the fact that I can keep changing the display.0 -
Hi, Yes I buy them, not so much whilst out of work at the moment, but I buy the odd bunch of daffs.
In a few months I'll be able to make a bunch up from the garden. These are not the traditional cut flowers but a make up a bunch which is sometimes "inventive"but they still loook nice.
One thing I have done is invest in a couple of small vases, then split the bunch between, say, three vases and placing them in different rooms, so you sort of get more for your money :money:0 -
I buy them now and again as a treat. I like quite simple displays of flowers so a low value bunch suits me fine.
I've also got a African violet in the kitchen window that seems to thrive on neglect and surprises me 2 or 3 times a year with lovely purple flowers. There's basil plants too (for the rabbit to munch) which is lovely to rub now and then for the smell.
Been thinking about getting a kalanchoe as these flower in abundance and look so colourful.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
Oh well, I'll buck the trend
I'm always buying myself cut flowers. If I'm out with DH shopping he's often the one to say why don't you buy some flowers? He'll often come back from a solo shopping trip with a couple of bunches for me. I get so much pleasure from them. Even one of my dnieces commented when about 12 years old " Auntie Churchmouse always has lots of lovely flowers, her house always looks nice"
:D
If she'd looked beyond them, she'd have realised it certainly doesn't :rotfl:
There are a great many other things I'll cut back on before my flowers, but I do realise I'm lucky to be able to afford them. Then again we all choose our spending priorities, and they will all be as unique as each of usYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
No I don't for several reasons. too many cats - eating, spilling disasters are not recommended. Loads of flowers are grown with lots of chemicals/heating/or flown from overseas. For myself I'd have a hard time with that for food without carbon footprints from flowers too.
If I didn't have the cats I'd have a pot of bulbs/flowering plants/window boxes (if I had sash windows). I do have plants in the garden and love the look of them.Put the kettle on.0 -
I treat myself to the odd bunch of daffs or tulips - just to brighten up the place. When peonies are about I buy the odd bunch - only because I like to see these tennis ball shaped things turn into beautiful blooms! At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)0

Although cut flowers look pretty, I never liked the idea that I am just admiring them as the slowly die
I go for pot plants instead. I am like some of you and worry about not being able to nurture them to keep them healthy so rely on sturdy types like peace lilies. Peace lillies are gorgeous when they flower and barely even need watering - they even thrive in dark cornersLove and compassion to all x0 -
