OAP drivers

I have been caught speeding at 38mph in a 30mph zone via speed camera. I was in a rush to get somewhere and I am usually very impatient with slow drivers (I am 53 and female by the way!). I was offered a Speeding Awareness Course which I accepted ... grrrrr. I went on the course yesterday (was in a real mood at breakfast) from 11am to 3.30pm and was told by the instructor that he holds this course for around 100 people per day 5 days per week and that is only in Canterbury! At first I was miffed that I got caught speeding as I am a very careful driver but it can happen to anybody of any age/sex. There were a mixture of people there from young to older (one person with 2 years experience right up to 50 years experience) but we all came away feeling so much more confident with greater knowledge. The course covered not only speed but observation, awareness, time management and not being intimated by tailgaters/impatient drivers etc. The course was good... I would recommend everyone taking it rather than just paying a fine and points off your licence! It makes you realise why you should adhere to the correct speed. I will never be intimated again and will drive at up to 30mph in built up areas and if someone is impatient they can overtake me.0

I saw an incident today of carelessness, an oap crossed the road at a pedestrian crossing now admittedly he did not press the button to stop the traffic (more about that lower down) but the driver was doing 40 in a 30 and thought it was funny to sound his horn right in front of him scaring the chap no end now as I said he should off pressed the button to stop the traffic but also the driver should have been going slower and within the limit and thus adjusted speed accordingly sooner.
As for sounding his horn there was just no need for that and maybe there was a reason why he did not press the button like mental capacity etc but as I have said before drivers do not thing of that his attitude was hey im in a big dangerous car get out of my way and that totally stinks.
I have seen so many incidents like this I feel totally ashamed of drivers attitude.0 -

I too did this course and was glad I did as it does give you a differant outlook and those graphic images they show you really brings it home.0 -
as the french say why live like an invalid to die a well man?
i'm not convinced, i'll still drive at 10mph over the limit. just like most people.
I could not give a toss if you want to kill yourself it is the innocent ones that are left behind that have to live with the consequences of your actions which you appear to think make you big and a man, with your attitude one day it may be you that loses or maims a loved one, I wonder what you will think then.0 -

anyone interested can have a look on this at their reactions at 30 and 40mph. i managed to stop in time at 30 but not at 40. scary.:happyhear0 -
99.999% of drivers break the speed limit. I'm amazed that the tiny proportion of drivers that have never broken the speed limit seem to be posting on this thread.
don't get me wrong, i don't think it acceptable to break the speed limit in all conditions. but on a clear road with no other traffic and no parked cars etc i think it acceptable to break the limit. and on the journey home from work today i saw most drivers going slightly over the limit. you think they should all be banned? maybe they should all be jailed as well?
if you are so concerned about road safety can we all agree that OAP's should have their reaction times tested? after all it's a well known fact that older people have slower reaction times. if stopping people with slower reaction times saves children getting run over it has to be a good thing.0 -
