Royal Mail Redirections

  • We have just moved and we wanted to use it.

We filled out the forms and dropped them off along with our payment.

After being in our new house for about a week, we got a letter from the PO saying that because there were multiple occupants at our old address they werent able to sort it.

But.....my Mum in Law moved out to a different place from us and she is getting hers redirected fine.

We phoned them up to complain and they basically said "Well Mum in Law is lucky so far but her service might stop. As for you, we arent prepared to sort it".

Ive never heard anything so crazy in all my life!! And Im not too happy about missing mail from people who I cannot contact!

When one of my tenants moved out, he left me with a pile of address labels ;) If post did arrive, it took me no time to stick a label on and pop the post in a post box.
I hope he also left you with a pile of stamps to post them with!

Years ago you did not have to pay to send on mail to a former house owner ... you just wrote "please forward" and sent it off ... can anyone please tell me if this is still the case or do you have to pay ..??? Want to know so we can possibly forward mail on..?? Thank you!!

You (as the sender) don't have to pay, but the recipient will (or could be) charged the postage plus a fine, if they agree to accept the letter.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

I used it many years ago .I used to get some post sent to my parents house .
My father complained ( he was always in a mood ).
So i got my mail redirected . But the postie redirected all the mail going to my parents house ,and then delivered it to the wrong address .
my father came round demanding his post ,as he was expection a cheque .I didnt have his post .They had to get the police involved when the cheque was cashed .After that I didnt bother redirecting my post.

No, that's not the case. If the mail is unopened, the Royal Mail will redirect to the new address for free. If it's redirected to a overseas address it goes surface mail, but it will be redirected.

i rediredcted mine for 12 months when i moved and it has just ended
i had a couple of problems at first namely my daughters ni card as they said they couldnt redirect govermant addressed mail
so i got a load of stamps so i bought a load of a4 envelopes and stuck my address on them and dropped them off at the old house and i have had loads of stuff from them
so a year on i have had to do it again for another year just to hopefully pick up anything that still gets sent to the old house

You phoned them! Companies always seem to make up nonsense on the phone mainly to get rid of people.

I would write to them and point out there are two different surnames at the address and ask them why they cannot redirect mail from a private residence to 2 addresses.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • We are currently using the redirection service having just moved house. I would say about 5% of stuff falls through the net and has been forwarded by the new occupants of our previous house. Pretty good though and it shows that you haven't just cleared off (like the guy we brought this house from - tons of stuff!!!)

I have never trusted RM and PF my postie is an old pev, he looked into my mates window at her. And does anyone recall a programm on channel 4 where they found that they were stealing stuff.

You cant tarnish all posties with the same brush and if you had followed up the program you'd have seen that the program makers had to appologise to RM for fabricating and sensationalising various aspects of the program, and i think setting up some things as well.
"Royal Mail today welcomed Channel Fours acknowledgement that a key part of Aprils Dispatches film concerning the alleged theft of a Barclaycard was inaccurate, and that a mock-up of a postal worker stealing money from a birthday card in a newspaper advertisement for the programme was not backed up by any similar acts filmed by undercover reporters."
Here is a link to the story which may set you straight.

Thats not to say all posties are honest, just not all "old pervs"
Im not sticking up for them just because i work for them, because my job right now is the pits but i still do it to the best of my ability and im fed up with people berating them just because their postie might not be the best in the land
