I have used it a couple of times, most were fine, once it was terrible. I called Royal Mail to complain and they refunded the cost of (I think) 2 months redirection by giving me stamps. I have never had so many stamps in my entire life....but the problem seemed to go away.

Whats the alternative? Apart from going back to collect mail from your old address or asking them to forward it on (I know someone who did this and gave the purchaser a huge bunch of large stamped addressed envelopes to forward stuff on once a week!)...

We used it after we moved out of our last place, the service was dire. We had it for 2 years, but only paid for about 6 months because every time there was a major screw up we got another 3 months free. I'd guess they only managed to redirect around 1/2 the post, and sometimes it would take several months to reach us. At one point they were sending OH's mail to someone else (she had lived on the same street about 20 houses down, but that was the only connection). Apparently she had been complaing about it for months, but it was still happening. Eventually she tracked OH down on the internet as he has an unusual name and forwarded it to him herself.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • I started getting post belonging to someone else in the street where I used to live. Amongst other things I received her power bills and bank statements, which was worrying!

I am now about a year into a two year redirection service, but ever since I complained about receiving my ex-neighbour's post, I haven't received anything at all. It may be that I have had no post, but it's more likely that it's going somewhere else. Fortunately it will all be junk by now, but I can't seem to get a sensible answer from Royal Mail about it.

I've done this twice, no major problems either time.

  • I've used it 3/4 times and no problems.

However the thing with missing mail is that you never get it and therefore never know what you're missing!

Go through a list of all the important places that need and hold your address and contact them yourself - better safe than sorry!
  • I use it every winter because I spend a few months somewhere warm and have never had a problem. If you are moving and will not be returning to the old address I would make sure you tell bank, car insurance and anyone else you consider important.

hi im one of your overworked posties and id like to think that i take great care with everyones redirections, we look at not just the surname but all the christian names, initials etc. I think its a great service but nonetheless if your previous postie is not paying attention or generally not very good there will be problems but you can speak to his manager and he will personally check items before theyre redirected. Hope this helps a wee bit

many thanks for all your replies...it's much appreciated

I'll be setting up my first redirection next week...even though I'll be changing addresses of everything I can think of..I'm sure I'll forget about something, and I don't want to rely on the people buying my house (I don't think it's fair to rely on a stranger to forward any mail!)
