Royal Mail Redirections

Has anyone used the Royal Mail redirection service, and if so, is it reliable?
Has any post gone missing or delivered to the old address by mistake?

Thanks...

Seller of one house I bought had their mail re-directed but we still got plenty of their post come through. I wasn't impressed.

  • Sorry to hijack. The people I am buying off have the same surname as me, do they look at the initial before the surname or will my mail get redirected to their new house?

Seems to be working fine for us since we moved last April. Not aware of any missing mail (apart from bills and Inland revenue ;) )

you might want to contact the post office. but i think it is a difficult one as i think they just look at the surname

hi- have used redirection many times with great success with one VERY bad exception.

4 years ago moved house at similar time to someone else in my road.

I realised after a couple of weeks that the redirection wasnt working for all my mail.

Rang PO a couple of times to complain-they sent me a book of stamps!

after about 2 months and another couple of phone calls I asked a friends husband who was a postman to have a word at the sorting office- and hey presto! my mail started to arrive.

18 months later a huge parcel arrived from the post office in southampton with all my missing mail and a cheque for £25 to say sorry.

I've done it twice. The last one just finished and it worked fine for a whole year. I generally only received junk mail, and a few magazine subscriptions from organisations who refused to re-address my mail. Bank, bills etc where very quick to change my details.

The first time I did it half my post was missing and I got letters that where not mine. I complained and got another 3 months of bad service added on.

A colleague of mine is currently doing it and complaining that his half his post is missing. He lives in a different area.

Therefore I think it depends on each delivery office and you have to try it out. Complain in writing if stuff goes missing plus verbally, and if you can go back to your former address and pick up any letters.

The post office may get confused by different initials with the same surname because they tend to allow a variation on names. This variation is suppose to be names that are put on the form but I still received letters from idiot organisations who cannot spell my name correctly ( even after I corrected them ) via the royal mail redirection service.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

When I moved house last March I arranged for redirection but some mail went to my old address, fortunately a neighbour in the block sent it on to me. when I complained I got an apology and some stamps, this happened on a few more occassions until I told them to get it sorted and I wasn't bothered with stamps but good service. They the refunded my money and the service continued for the remainder of the year without problems

---this happened to me also, except the mail was redirected to a road with the same name but in a different town. My mail did not arrive for weeks until I could confirm what was happening. I found that my renewed debit card went there also. Royal Mail were very unhelpful and I never got any mail back.
I suppose it usually works ok but when it goes wrong it is a nightmare for the unlucky ones. Especially on top of all the other stress of moving!
Now I just write a long list of who I need to change my address with and all the numbers and just work through it.

I've used it a few times before with no apparent problems, but watch this space to see if it works this time!

We've been using it since July, seems to be working well.
