Asda ...... petty ?

Was in Asda with a couple of friends at the weekend, my mate who is 29 was buying some cigs and his misses walked over and stood next to him, the women serving then grabbed the cigarets and demanded ID ....... from her !! , she asked what on earth she is being ID'd for and the women said because he 'could be buying them for her' !! (she is 29 as well ....)

She actually had produce her driving license so that her fella could buy his own cigarets ( he wasn't ID'd by the way).

Only in Asda !!

    Nope...not true unfortunately!
  • A couple of years ago, my other half (who looks quite young) was asked for ID when she was standing next to me as I was buying matches in Spar. It's not just Asda...

Better safe than sorry, cashiers have to abide by the age restrictions and make personal judgements which could cost them their job and a hefty fine and prison sentence if they sell goods to underage customers!

So I don't see how this is a big inconvenience, simply the cashier protecting their own backside!

It happens a lot. Personally I feel flattered when I am ID'd (by proxy or not). I am 28, nearly 29.

I was ID'd in Morrisons the other day for a bottle of wine.

I'M THIRTY SODDING SIX FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!!!!!!!

I'm also bald as a cue ball!

Couldn't believe it, I honestly thought she was joking.

Anyway, I handed over my ID and ahe said she had to check everyone who looked under 25, I'm closer to 40 than I am to 25!

Maybe she was checking if you were eligible for pensioners' discount?

    *runs away chortling*

If they do not ask they can get in trouble/sacked.

Who knows when they get mystery shopped/TV programme looking to find a bad employer. Getting more and more common.

If given the choice of asking some one who is more likely old enough and upsetting them. Then letting a too young person buy them and for me to get into trouble. I know which option I would go for.

Wasn't there a thread a while back from a woman who was doing her shopping in the daytime and bought some wine for a night out and got refused because she had her baby with her?
