You know how it feels when everything just keeps going wrong...
Yep, like getting cheques in that bounce, Ive had more in the last year than in the previous 20 years, one even bounced 3 times, kept telling me "well the money is in the account"......
One their own problems are not serious and can be sorted but when they all come together they are serious........ Need a lottery win and a holiday?:D
Life will turn around and work will pick up I'm sure just look after yourself, making yourself ill won't help anyone and TBH your happiness and life are priceless.......
I went through a phase where I was working 7 days a week, accounts,VAT etc and almost made myself ill, penny dropped when I went for a walk in the country, listened to the birds singing, Spring flowers blossoming and thought ,this is what life is for, appreciate what we have around us and all the people who think their job is more important that that can go and get stuffed, if they want me to do the job they would wait......which TBH they do wait...
I know its more stressful when you have employees to worry about ....0 -

While people are so busy reporting the CITB's explanatory post they are missing the point.
The point being why and for how long and from whom the levy is raised.

Hi Life,
It might be worth explaining what the Levy is and how it works. The construction industry training levy was introduced 40 years ago to guarantee that the industry invested enough in bringing new blood into the industry, whilst also making sure that the existing workforce had the skills needed to make sure that construction projects were completed safely, on time, to cost and to the highest standards.
The levy makes sure that everyone – from the smallest businesses to the largest - has the opportunity to train their workforce, so that they can take advantage of commercial opportunities. Only businesses with a PAYE that exceeds £80,000 a year pay levy and many small businesses that are registered with CITB-ConstructionSkills don’t pay levy, but can claim grants.
All the funds raised by the levy go back into the industry in the form of grants and other support. The decisions as to how the funds and grants are allocated are made by a board made up of people from the industry. CITB-ConstructionSkills’ running costs are paid for through commercial activity.
As an employer myself, I understand how hard the recession has hit us all, but we also need to make sure the support's there when we need it for the upturn.
Thanks,
CITB-ConstructionSkills
P.S Make sure if you do have to pay the levy you're set up to spread the payments in instalments - at the moment it's this sort of thing that can make a difference. If you haven't, ask to arrange it with one of the levy team on 0344 994 4455."0 -

I ask because I doubt that manufacturing wages would be included in a CITB levy and any fitting required as a process of manufacturing could be exempt too i.e. corian worktops, sinks etc. a bit like the CIS scheme exempts them.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

For the post to be taken seriously, the poster has to be confirmed as genuine.
edit to say that I have not reported the post as the thread is too important to Lifeisbutadream to risk it being deleted.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
I have requested permission, so thanks for advising.0

Except that isnt really the point.
I have now found out all this information, since getting the invoice.
My point was that (I feel that) CITB have tricked me, as nobody informed me of the fact that if I went over that amount that I would have to pay something. I would have made sure that I didnt go over that amount had I known.
Nobody has informed me of any courses I could go on or how to get the best out of CITB either. All I got was someone 3 years ago when we took on an Apprentice, telling me that by law I had to sign up to them and that I didnt have to worry about anything else.
I will be going through my books with a fine tooth comb and hopefully I will be able to re submit some figures with materials as well as labour.
I will then make sure that I do not go over that amount ever again. In fact I will consider winding down my business completely, making the Apprentice redundant in the process.
I wouldnt mind but we have a good business. We have a good reutation and have never been without work. We are not greedy and making a reasonable living (although have to work many hours and have a lot of stress) - I pretty much might as well give HMRC and such as CITB my bank card and PIN number and ask for a fiver pocket money each week.
As I said, I will do everything I can NOT to pay this out of principal. If I cant do it the correct way, let them get it the hard way. I will be off!0
