  • Hi Paul,

Are you saying that HSBC have already given you your cheque for your bank charges and that they sent you your statements afterwards??

My boyfriend and I sent of our first letter to HSBC on Tuesday. We went into our local branch for our statements about a week before and they charged us £10. We then highlighted all charges which came to the best part of 2.5K so fingers crossed we get a quick response and our dollars back!

We basically highlighted anything that was a charge, except for the £1.50 fee charges by cash machines.
  • A few months ago I successfully claimed back £1050.00 from HSBC. Since then I have been charged 2 x £80.00 and 1 x £125.00. Does anyone know if I am within my rights to claim these charges back?

Unless you have signed something to the contrary at the settlement of your last claim then Yes.

Be aware that banks get a bit upset about being repeatedly threatened, so they're more likely to close your account this time round.
  • Thanks. I'll give it another go and let you know how I get on. I'm sure the banks don't like being repeatedly threatened, maybe as much as I don't like being charge £125 for going £5 overdrawn... lol

Well pretty much as some of us expected !!

Perhaps you should have learnt from past mistakes and not incurred charges again - seems pretty obvious to me.

And, along the same lines, perhaps the bank should have learned from their past mistakes and not charged further illegal penalty charges?

What's good for the goose, and all that.
Anything I post here is purely my own personal opinion. As such it may be wrong, poorly worded or written very tongue-in-cheek. Please therefore treat it the same way you should treat anything you read on the internet from an unknown person - with a healthy pinch of salt and scepticism!
  • :j Hi all, this is my first post (so be gentle) after trawling through and reading as much as i can the last few days. What a fab site and forum. Now to business, a few questions i can't seem to find a straight answer for ? Hope someone out there can help ? I am straining at the leash to get stuck into my bank (HSBCon!) However a few things are holding me back ;

a, I Have an 11k personal loan (of which i've just missed the first payment ! :embarasse ) Will/can they call it in if i do this ?

b, I have an overdraft of 1k and i'm about £400 over it as we speak ! :o , will/can they call that in, or demand any settlement is offset against it ?

As you can see, if these two options were to be exercised then i'd be in a considerably worse situation than i currently am.Therefore, not worth it ???

I've been with my bank for 18 years and visited my branch last week to personally ask that they consider dropping this months charges ( £125, before refused DD ! ) and if they could increase my O/D until i was able to sell some shares in the new year, ...........yeah you guessed it ! a big fat NO !!! So the charges just keep on coming !

I'm sure many of you out there know exactly how i feel, any advice/answers/encouragement would be greatly appreciated - cheers.

I really need this ! just need the confidence etc to do it.

  • They can ask for anything they want back - but they probably wont! that'll just look really bad for them.

add up your charges see what it comes too - you'll get a 50% offer in the first few weeks or so that alone could me enough to cover your overdraft!
  • Hubby is taking HSBC to court for £2969, he issued his claim on the 27th November, got a Notice of Issue this morning in the post saying that the court sent the claim to the defendant (HSBC) by first class post on the 29th and it will be deemed to be served on 01 December, the defendant has until the 15th december to reply.

  • Can someone please advise me on the following:

    1. A number of people have referred to their statements being on line. I have checked this and it only shows 6 months worth - is there somewhere else on their system that I should be looking?

    2. As I couldn't find the above on line I have sent a letter, recorded delivery, to the account holding branch, (different to my local branch as we have moved from the area). I have since noticed that there is an address in London given on this site - should I send it there also?

    3. The 40 days - is that working days or calendar days?

I am hoping to claim back charges from two accounts - I expect this to amount to around £3000+ without the 8% interest. Should I go for interest also? At the end of the day it is our mismanagement of our accounts that has led to us being charged - albeit the charges are excessive. I think we've been charged over £125 across the teo accounts every month this year alone. Can the claim for both account be done as one claim or should they be seperate?

    Many thanks
    cc £1023.71
    loan £829.37
    overdraft £2500
