  • Thanks for advice about washing machines...

Am considering applying to be a KS2 SATs marker (even though I hate the *!@^ ing tests) - deadline is 28th Feb. Only English is available though, which puts me off a bit - maths is so much easier to mark. I know I'd need my Headteacher's permission first.

Anyone on here got experience of marking KS2 English? How much do you get / is it worth the hours spent (I'm well aware that it's not easy money!)

Not English but I am sitting here marking another subject for an exam board - been doing it for 8 years now! Boring....but little breaks makes it easier - and looks good on your CV! If I mark my quota - I can earn between £800-£1000 but there are opportunities to mark more should I want. The exam boards normally highlight the areas that they are short in before you apply, on their websites. Its worth applying just for the areas they are short of - otherwise you might be waiting a few years before they accept you. They should also want key skills examiners or GCSE which I am sure you could also mark? (shop around - there are many exam boards recruiting!)

Anyhow....back to exam marking for a bit longer....!

Good progress - well done! :j
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    £34,197.99... (£300 OP this month)

Not been a good couple of months: got clobbered with car repair bill of just over £500 last month, then paid off service charge for flat for this financial year in one go (£729)...

However, depending on weather, am aiming to cycle to school (i.e. work!) 3 days a week in terms 5 and 6... Others think I do it for environmental reasons i.e. not being sat in a traffic jam on the Bristol Ring Road, but no, it's purely because I want to save on petrol money :)

Am now aiming to get mortgage down to £27,000 by end of this year, rather than £25,000 I'd hoped for...
  • £200 OP yesterday

    £33,997.99 now...

Am happy that even if I did not make a single more OP, I'd pay off this 1st mortgage in 6 years...

  • Hi Patrick,

I have subscribed to your diary as I lurked for years here too before having the courage to start my own diary :o.
I'm sure you'll have got the washing machine by now but I would agree with all the Zanussi fans - we had one for 16 years with no repair bills ever, and it had a hard life - 3 children! We only replaced it because it finally died a spectacular death and we bought a Dyson. Hmm, I can see why he stuck to making vaccuum cleaners is all I can say.

Good luck with your MF journey, I'll look forward to reading it :)
