Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 12th Feb. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning loveys

Raining here and it's set to last the day
Sunday club today an rib of beef for tea
Need to make more twinks and washing again, TD will be in use too.
Woke up the a mouth that felt like gandi's flip flop, so will be drinking copious amounts of tea
Have lovely days xx

Morning Bargainbird and all to follow.
Wet and miserable here again
isn't raining at the moment and hopefully it will stay away as OH plans to work in the garden today.
I am waiting for DS to get up to see if he is going to boxing or not. If he isn't - think will still pop to town as need a few bits.
Didn't have chicken for dinner last night as when I opened the pack it had gone off  only bought it the day before and was well in date so a visit to the local shop for a refund is in order.
Anyway will pick up some more chicken elsewhere and have that for dinner tonight. Ended up having a very lazy day yesterday
(first one in ages) so will be getting the washing and ironing done today.
Hope everyone is ok (((hugs))) wherever needed.x0 -

Morning everyone
DD already being a total PITA
Anyone have any tips on her attention seeking behaviour as this is what I am assuming it is. I do try and give her some attention but think perhaps I am going to have to up the ante and give her lots of praise when she's being really good. Trying to give H a lie and she won't walk down the stairs, she wants to be carried. Can't do that she's too heavy for me. Offered to hold her hand with her as she walked down but that's not good enough so she threw a strop at the top of the stairs. Bang goes H's lie in as I try and keep the kids reasonably quiet.
Anyway enough of my moaning. Got another kids party today, late morning. Got a chicken to roast, might put that on in a sec, for tea. H did all the washing so just the ironing left now :T
Might see if kids want to do some baking this morning as tin is nearly empty.
Nothing else to report, no idea on the weather as it's still dark.
Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Morning folks. My plan of getting up early every day helped me to have a better sleep last night. I'd got into that circle of trying to catch up on sleep during the day if I only got a few hours at night. Fingers crossed it continues.
Have my little light on here to give me the joys of sunlight or whatever it does!
DH working today so I've left him to have a longer snooze. Will either do a chicken dinner before he goes (lunchtime) or a brunch type meal.
Well I'm glad we didn't shell out for rugby tickets! Scotland were dire. Good atmosphere in Edinburgh though and we watched the England-Italy game in a pub which wasn't crowded. Have to text my Italian friend as he will need good cheer after their result!
Twinks to be made today although that, of course, will mean that I eat loads of them. I rarely buy biscuits or cakes so am not often tempted. However, think of the wonder of all those oats - my goodness they will be doing my heart good .
Bitsy - think you're right that praise for good stuff and try to ignore and not comment on the 'other'. Hard going though (((hugs))).
Have a good Sunday peeps, whatever your plans are.

¡Hola!
Welcome newbies :hello: and everyone else
Before I start, sistercas have you tried B&M for wallpaper/paint? Know we have one, and that you are not a million miles away.
Doesn't everyone use lard for pastry? I always have?
Whoever had done their bedroom, it looked Fab. (Sorry Oldagers getting to me)
Someone asked about Breadmakers, I think the majority go for Panasonic, I have SD255, which automatically drops seeds/fruit in, and even I succeed with it
There is a link on the OS thread called something like I love my Panny I think. Have a look here.
Sorry to hear you have rain today, we have a little forecast for overnight tonight 0.2mm, but today is set to be beutiful again. Just opened the shutters to let the warmth in as the sun has just got high enough. DH still in bed, think he is starting with manflu, so will keep my distance and let him die in peace.
I was in the dog house yesterday as we had too many newspapers around, well there is at least one free one each day out here, and then our neighbour gives us their UK one when they had read it, as she knows I like the maths challenge and the Suduko. So I had to spend the day (sitting in the sun) doing these so some papers could go to the bin.
:rotfl::rotfl: I feel I may be tasked with the same today to keep out of someones way.
I will put some S&K in the SC in a mo for dinner today. We went to a new restaurant, more inland last night, and I had a Porterhouse Steak it was to die for, so something more down to earth for today. Will just at some hot beef stock (cube & boiling water) as the kidney adds enough flavour. Think I have carrots and cauliflower in the fridge and will do mash. I could make some pastry but no good for the waistline.
Bitsy no real suggestions for your DD, as only had an easy DS. Then again, as you can imagine stroppy me took no prisoners, and no I didn't hit him. A look was enough, as I kept both threats and promises and he knew that. The only thing we worked out was he liked to be seen as good, and if he was going off the rails, before it got there we would say "I thought you were my good boy", and he would stop what mischief he was getting into and come and say I am Mum, and would get a hug. The best punishment threat as he got a little older was that he could not watch the WWF Wrestling (think it has changed its name now) we hated it, but then he couldn't talk to his mates about it. I did it for a week once
, after that the threat of it was enough to bring him round.;)
Time for a coffee I think. Take care all and ((hugs)) where needed.

Morning everyone. Bitsy - they say the best thing is to reward good behaviour through copious praise. never worked for me!!! Think you have to have the patience of a saint and continue it for at least two weeks!
Looks grey and wet outside. Didn't sleep well due to DS2 being in our bed all night (he had swollen legs and what looked like little mossy bites all over them) so I was concerned. He is a real duvet pincher - grrrr so I went to the sofa about 5am. DS1 woke me up playing with his lightsaber at 5.30 - double grrrr! So have been up since then, showered and had first coffee - first of many. OH (he's a doctor) says nothing to worry about with DS2 so am just vegging out on the sofa.
Dinner is some sort of pork roll that I got at a reduced price - will do it with loads of veg. DS1 has a pool party to go to later, so will haul myself up to go to then. Also I want to join the gym - need to get rid of the overhang (!!) and don't appear to have the willpower to stick to a diet. Have found one with a sauna etc, so I'll be able to treat myself too. Tomorrow I'm on the flylady for a whole week to really make the house sparkle.
Pudding for the children will be something from the freezer - think I have mousse! Hugs to everyone - we need it with the yucky grey weatherMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning :hello:
We saw one of mr tru's old friends yesterday, they used to work together, in fact mr tru taught him everything he knows
He started his own business a couple of years ago. He asked how work was going, we told him about the redundancy. He rang us later in the day and asked us to meet him and his wife in a nice country pub, where he offered mr tru a job :j :j :j It's about a 20 minute drive to work, much better than an hour and 15 mins :j It's less money than he's on ATM but still do-able for us and he'll get a van instead of a car (who cares! lol). They asked me what I do, not as part of the chit-chat but when we were talking seriously. I don't know if that means anything or not. Though I'm a very good whipper (I'll leave that to your imagination, lol) and he knows that, I did it a couple of days a week when they worked together.
I'm going to carry on stockpiling til the end of March, while his wages are higher.
That's it, no OS from me but I just had to tell someone
Please keep this off FB for now, we had a plan (just a little one) which we still want to carry through, can't do that if people from his current job know about the new job
ETA - it took me ages to type that (I wondered off halfway though to make a cuppa!) so I missed the other posts. Praise didn't work for my kids either! I'd be boiling inside, but gave the impression that their bad behaviour didn't bother me in the slightest. And I developed 'the look', that seemed to do the trick. I can't remember anything else - my youngest is 19yo.Bulletproof0 -
Good morning,
Another fed up mum here. The house elf has been up since 3:25am. He sleeps the right number of hours, just at the wrong times and I can't seem to move it round. He sleeps on average from 6pm until 4am. If I could make his bedtime 8pm then he would sleep until 6am which would be great. I have had the 'ump this week as one of his friend's mums suggested I take him to the doctor. I have checked with his school, and he is doing well, so no problems there, and he is getting plenty of sleep, so doesn't need drugging or anything. Another mum said she didn't now how I coped. I wasn't aware that I had any choice grrrr. Both od these people have husbands so get some help round the house and with childcare etc.
Ok, rant over. I still have ironing to do today and I reckon I could get another load of washing together. I didn't make cakes yesterday, I made a sort of quiche thing for my healthy eating plan. It has pasta as a base, and I mixed cottage cheese, eggs, onion, tuna and sweetcorn as the topping. It made the house smell lovely while it was cooking, and I had enough stuff to make my friend a mini version to try. I will get round to making cakes today.
The house elf's eating went down the pan yesterday. He is currently refusing breakfast and is in a horrible mood because he didn't eat properly yesterday. He had rice pudding for his dinner because he was showing off in front of a visitor, and he knows I won't make a scene in pubic. Today all visitors including his friends are banned and he will have a proper lunch and a roast chicken dinner. What he eats has a very dramatic effect on his behaviour. If he hasn't eaten enough (like yesterday) then he is horrible (today).0 -
Morning all
Very grey & damp here this morning, still hubby did enough in the garden yesterday so can spend today chilling.
DS is coming for lunch today, roast chicken with all the trimmings, I shall do roast parsnips too as he loves them.
I'm hoping to finish the curtains today if hubby doesn't need me as garden assistant.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning All

Bright eyed and bushy tailed up here, having been awake since six
The boys have just this minute got up, DS1 came in the livingroom singing "lets Get it Started in Here" because he wanted to show me how wide awake he was :rotfl: and DS2 came stoating in a minute later like a zombie. The thing is, during the day DS1 is quiet and chilled, and DS2 jumps about like a bunny rabbit on Acid! What a pair.
Bitsy, I don't know what to suggest because to be honest mine were pretty good all the time. DS2 did have the oddd tendency now and again to strop, but I just ignored him. HE does whinge a bit even now, but I just ignore him and tell him to use a normal voice before I listen. He's like Donny's boy, and being a good boy is the most important thing, so he's always eager to please. The only ything I can definitely advise on is the stairs thing. I couldn't carry my two downstairs, so we used to just sit and "bump" down the stairs together, which was always a good laugh and avoided any moaning. {{hugs}}
Donny Gal glad to see you are having nice weather for a change
Tru that's fabulous news about OH's new job, fingers crossed it means something for you work wise too
WMF that rugby result was an embarrassment my friend in Oz is so gutted I could hear him wailing from here
Washing machine is on (when's it ever not?) made some scotch pancakes for breakfast which the boys haven't spotted yet, and am off to make a fruit salad shortly, I bought some extra nice bits I don't usually get, like pineapple and kiwis - hate the airmiles thing, and try to buy stuff from as close as possible - so that I could do that, I am hoping it will keep my sweet tooth at bay this week. I am determined to get to level three on Flylady this week, I have been neglecting things too much.
Have a good day everyone, hugs spoons and hi fives where needed. Penny Pincher hasn't been on for about a month, has anyone heard how she is, I am a bit worried because she wasn't doing well the last time she was on, and she's meant to be on holiday around now too, I think.

Bitsy - i just walk away if they start stropping out
, it makes them louder though so not very helpful first thing in the morning when DH is trying to lie in.
Tru - Woohoo well done, hopefully he has something in mind for you too
Julie - Love the bedroom
FB - Have fun today
