This is such a great idea!!!
No more dishwasher tablets for us!!!0 -
Having looked at the back of the dishwasher powder pack for list of ingredients:eek: it looks remarkably like the ingredients for biological washing powder (not that they like to give too much away "among other ingredients") Does anyone know if it is more or less the same stuff or what the differences are?
If they are the same thing at £1.98 for 1k of tescos own dishwasher powder and £1.49 for 3k of their value washing powder I feel we are being a tad ripped off!!0 -
I always stock up on Lidl dishwasher tablets when they're half price so it's £1 for 30, then I break them in half and I get 60 washes for £1 which I think is a bargain! My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

Is your heater element encrusted? If so, it won't hurt. If not... <shrug> why bother
Blasted water round here is harder than concrete. They built a bridge with it!
Concrete Bridge
That is a seriously BIG bridge.
If there was a car on it, it would look like this ---> .

I always use vinegar in mine and have noticed no difference. I did read in the Dollar Stretcher a tip from a woman whos hubby worked in a restaurant. She reckoned they used a dab (just a dab mind) of ordinary washing up liquid. I have not tried this yet, but wondered if a teensy bit mixed with vinegar would be good.
I am going to try it now you have brought this up.

I use diluted white vinegar instead of rinse aid - actually seems to do a better job on the glasses!0

Well I've tried cheapo washing powder instead of dishwasher powder and yes it works but for the last few loads I've tried a new product:-
fresh air!
It started when I had a full load of more or less "fresh" (ie not dried on) dirty plates etc and I just put them on 35 degree cycle with no powder and they all came out clean!:D
tried it twice more now - including proper dried on food plates and they are all coming out sparkly on 35 degree cycle! Well except for the rim of one pan and that never comes out clean even with dishwasher powder.
So I was wondering if anyone else has tried this? I suppose I could be using up residue powder but I would have thought it would have run out after a couple of loads.
Really curious as to wether we really need the powder at all (except perhaps with the real yucky stuff and then I've often found the dishwasher didn't clean them properly anyway!)0 -
I quite often run my dishwasher without anything, but I usually do it on a 60 degree cycle and the stuff comes out fine.Jane

Hi Kscour,
That's handy to know, I will pass that on to my mum- and report back. Mind you I got her onto stardrops and she uses that constantly now
Thanks,
