I ran out of DW powder ages ago so now i just use a (small) squirt of cheap washing up liquid, does the trick a treat.Don't put too much in there though, i made that mistake and i had to keep scooping out the suds until the spinny things could go around on their own !!!0

Thanks for that, it never even occured to me to run it with anything but a dishwasher tablet in...0

You can snap a dishwasher tablet in half - use that and it still works fine.
Double the washes.
I also use white vinegar as a rinse aid in the machine!"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA

Just moved into our own house - OH's mum gave us some DW tablets - think they're the finish 5 in 1 or something (I'm sure they are about 7 quid a box in asda - ouch).
I cut one in half and my OH started laughing at me. It will save loads over the years. I don't really want to buy the expensive ones so I'll maybe try a little washing up liquid instead :cool:Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
I use any cheap suprmarkets own make that is on offer and you can put in as muchor as little as you want. Surely a small amount of powder is better than none.
i agree never use tablets (full size) or satchets as they are then in control of how much you use and the want you to use as much as possible and this is the most expesive way.0 -
thanks for replies all! Glad that you don't all think I'm a nutter! I don't know why I've never tried this before as I hardly put any powder in anyway, rinse aid is dilluted vinegar of course!
Got another load of nicely dried on plates etc in D/W now - will let you know if they come out sparkly or not:D
PS Lovely wee lad you've got there Cullumpster!0 -
Another load of sparkly dishes has been produced!:D
Only "failures" were a wooden spoon that had turned on the shelf so I doubt dishwasher powder would have made any difference and the rim of the pan again - and again this never came clean with the powder in.
However a smaller pan that didn't have the boiled veg scum (or whatever the proper term for it is) on the rim but did have set in concrete baked beans dried up in the bottom of it:o came out spotless.
I think the dishwasher powder can stay on the shelf from now on - a few more pennies saved!0 -
OH won't agree to me trying anything other than finish tablets. Might have to accidently forget to put a tablet in tonight and see what happens!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

Off topic slightly but was wondering if I could use a tiny bit of Zoflora in my DW to give it a freshen up?? I cleaned it inside and out, filter too, but it still smells a bit musty.
Do you reckon it would work?? How much to put in??WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -
Hi Kiwichick
Usually put a chunk of lemon in mine - just sit it on the shelf and it seems to freshen D/W up
Would think a tiny drop of diluted zoflora would work but it's powerful stuff so I'd be worried about it tainting following washes (although you could always run it through on empty a few times if need be).
Sorry that's not alot of help:o but if you give it a go let me know if it works0
