Just noticed someone has posted a "success" story with A&L ... they got a cheque within a week of starting court proceedings ... amount £380. They're obviously taking it further with larger amounts:rolleyes:
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS

had ltr in post this morn from court letting us know that a&l had acknowledged and were intending to defend..>?!>?!

also had ltr from a&l WITH A CHEQUE FOR £305 - ALL CHARGES + COURT FEE

    WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl::j :rotfl: :j :rotfl: :j

the ltr from them says we have rcvd from northampton county court a claim you have issd. we have now reviewed your particular case and have decided in this instance to settle the claim.

this decision should not be regarded as an admission of liability on the part of the company, as we consider the charges to be fair and reasonable.

we therefore now enclose our cheque blah blah blah...

    BUT, THE LAST PARAGRAPH...

as it is clear that you do not accept the terms and conditions for the operation of your account we will shortly be contacting you to discuss it's future operation.

in short, i think we are gonna have to find the money to clear the overdraft cos it looks like they are gonna close it. if that's what they do to everyone who's claimed charges back they're gonna lose a hell of a lot of customers.

    bothered!!!

    we got our money back!!!!!

thanks to martin and everyone else on the site

    bank A + L

WHAT THE STORY IS SO FAR
i have wrote to A+L requesting my past 6 years of statements which i got back on the 35th day
i have worked out the charges plust 8% interest total £1095.29 via site calculator and sent them the letter along with a print out of dates and charges made against me
today they have wrote back stating the folowing

while i understand your concerns, please be assured our fees are reasonable and competitive bla bla bla
then it goes on to say that the oft regards late payment fees unfair as regards to credit cards and not current accounts

i ahve a current account with A+L am i still entitled to claim back the bank charges from them? the charges are for over drawing, failed direct debits, etc
if so do i send the template letter 5?

Yes and yes! Start the ball rolling and follow Martin's step-by-step instructions. Make sure you follow the time-scales ... send your first template letter as soon as possible and good luckicon7.gif

This is all standard "blurb" from them ... ignore it.

do i send the step 5 letter even though i have a current account? because they say "discussions are ongoing between the banks and oft regarding current accounts and once the outcome is know a+l will view it position as appropriate"

Continue with the claim and use the template letter threatening them with court action. Their words are meaningless with regards to credit cards and current accounts ... their charges are unlawful, full stop. If you're charged say £35 for a failed DD, this is no where near the actual cost to the bank (which is much less) and this is what it's all about. Loads of us are claiming for current accounts (me included) ... they just want to frighten you in backing down ... DON'T!
