Alliance & Leicester (merged)

Hi
A few days ago I got charged for going over the limit on the o/d.
£600 went into the account on the 1st October, the same day that 2dds totalling £52 came out. For each DD Alliance and Leicester charged me £25 for each DD being paid.
Before the DD's went out there was about £10 of the OD left.
I called A&L and they gave the usual spiel of not being able to do anything until the test case is published and about how they will log the case etc.
I can't believe they won't refund it especially as money was going into the account the same day, incidentally from another A&L account.
Can I claim this back, especially as its the first time Ive ever paid bank charges of this nature?0 -
yes... and as far as I am aware...A&L didnt sign the waiver, but check this out! If am right then carry on and reclaim it back as they will have to deal with it, am fairly sure its only Nationwide building society that has signed the waiver but am not 100% sure.0

I've been charged £25 this month and last by Alliance & Leicester. This is despite the fact that enough money was paid in by CASH on the day of something coming out and putting us over our o/d limit last month. It shows on our statement as the money going in before the DD tried to be paid.
I rang them and they said there's a stay on all charges. I know this already (successfully claimed against NatWest last year and have started proceedings against Lloyds).
So, am I going to have to wait until the case is heard in Jan, or if I kick up enough of a fuss, will they refund now? Anyone been refunded since the stay?

Exactly the same thing happened to me- they operate a debit before credit system even though money in and debits out happened on the same day it means that they will charge us.
I called up and asked to speak to the mgr and they said that someone else had already done this to no avail- I accepted this and told her that she may want to make a note on my file that I think its a disgrace and a shambles and also that I might move banks- in theory this is more hassle than its worth.
There must be someway round this- I wonder if Martin or one of his bods has anymore advice about this- £50 for 2direct debit even though money was technically in....disgusting0 -
Yes, I agree. Lloyds sent me a letter the other day saying that they will give you up to 3.30pm to pay in cash when you don't have sufficient funds to cover a DD from November 1st. Shame A&L aren't doing the same.LB Moment Sep 2007 Debt at highest £19,000 :eek:Debt at April 2011 £10,0000

the exact same thing happened to me with A&L.I put the money in by 8am at my post office, before the bank even opens!so i thought that this would be fine.I got charged £25 for going over OD,and £25 for every DD that came out that day totalling up to £100 for one day, even though my money was in account.I then got another letter saying that at the end of the month they would charge me another £25,dont really know why they said apart from it being a monthly fee or something.
When i called them up thay were really unhelpful and kept refering to my T&C that funds have to be in the evening before as banking starts at 6am-7am.
I have now just come off the phone from them requesting my statements to try and claim them back and been told that you have to pay £5 per statement.
I have only been with them since April and rate them as being the worst bank ever and im inbetween changing back to old bank account.:mad:0 -
I sent a secure message and got a message back saying they were closing my account
I've opened one with RBS now.0 -
This is shocking. I can't believe we will just have to wait until the court case. Surely we can do something now??LB Moment Sep 2007 Debt at highest £19,000 :eek:Debt at April 2011 £10,0000

Hello everyone,
Another new forum visitor and poster.
My problem;
I moved house in February of this year and foolishly did not change my address with every bank/organisation.
I have an account at the Alliance & Leicester (altho I cleared my overdraft facility and have left the account untouched)
I have acrued interest/charges for not funding my current account at Alliance & Leicester. The total has mounted up over the months.
What do I do - do I pay these charges then send a letter asking for a refund OR can I send a letter asking that the charges are reversed?
HELP! Apologies in advance if a thread has been posted that relates to my case.
