Thanks. I have tried the hel-ofx-quotes as I mentioned above without much success. I would appreciate to hear from anybody who has got this working in the UK.

I've had a quick look through that site and it's a bit out of my depth at the moment. I'm not familiar with java. I'll try and spend some time this weekend to see if I can work it out.

I have got it to work - its bril. You must use the latest version: 20110205 or later , which you download from:
    http://code.google.com/p/hle-ofx-quotes/downloads/list

The process involves setting up an ft.com portfolio, using its facilities to create a csv file, and then use hle-ofx-quotes (ft.com is explicitly supported) to transfer it as an OFX to Money.
  • Tried hle-ofx-quotes-Build_20110213_001 today, using Money 04 V12. Working fine with UK shares but not US. Hopefully this will be sorted in the next release.

One problem I experienced was that the currency in my Money was set to "Pound" and not "British Pound". For the app to work it has to be set to "British Pound", not just in Tools-Currency, but also in each Investment Portfolio.

It is essential that anyone trying this app does not do so on their current Money file with years of saved data. Probably best to create a test file so if it is corrupted then it is of no consequence.

Just an update - further to my post of 19-02-2011, 9:42 AM, My Version 12 (Money 2004) has been successfully updating share prices. The only observation is that it takes a lot longer than previously (approx 40secs - previously I'd say it was less than 10secs).

However, as long as it works, I'm not complaining - fingers cross that MS maintain this service well into the future.

So Money is still updating shares OK for me

Updates seem to be working OK for me (v12). Have you got a back-up file to go back to? If so make sure that you have automatic updates disabled then try getting a price updates again but make sure you untick the Money Update option as described earlier in this thread.

Just reporting my own experience here in case it helps someone. I'm using Microsoft Money 2002 V10.0 It tells me it's not secured by a Microsoft Passport. At the bottom edge of the screen it says "Money updates received on 26/05/2007" Attempts to update the program since that date have failed - and since Microsoft considers that disabling a feature is an update, no further update attempts will be made! "Update prices online" still works for UK share prices. Unit trust prices have flatlined since 9/3/11 - by which I mean that it has reported the same price each day since then. The FTSE AllShare index has been misreporting by orders of magnitude for some time; this year I've seen it as £31 and £3,100 and £310,000

I can endorse Vortigerns observations. I however have MS Money V12.0. I went through the pain of reverting to a backup version pre-February, turning off updates and then updating all entries. This worked initially but now.... Unit prices stopped updating for me 8th or 9th March. UK Share prices are still updating.:(

I'm using Ms Money 2001, shareprices are still coming though ok, currency are also coming through but for me the Euro rate has been wrong for years.

I'm aware that very soon that the share feed will disappear but as yet have not found an alternative for my needs.

    My ideal replacement would be:-

*A similar account look to MS Money
*Can be setup easily to be UK focused
*Can easily integrate share prices for sources like yahoo, google through a plugin design (if one feed goes down then there's still a backup)
    *Has currency price feed
*Plugin for special accounts, for example, my employer each year offers a share save scheme, the share price is in euros, we pay in pounds, the terms can be complicated with income tax, capital gains etc.. to take into account. The constants in all this are the share price, currency rate, no of shares, brought price and brought at currency rate. With a plugin I'd see as passing inputs from the application/share feed, entering a calculation to workout the value and present it as an account. The plugin account could be setup by the user and exported to be shared with other users
    *import/export of plugins

I tried GnuCash but didn't like the layout, came across as too American and I couldn't get the stock interface working

I think for the moment I will probable be using Excel with the smf_addin plugin to get the share prices, but would love to use a more automated open source solution

I'm now seeing the same thing. Share prices have updated OK but the last funds update I've had was the 8th or the 9th.
