Maybe its a precaution as the baby has been in a 'wet' environment for months so it's skin maybe sensitive when it first arrives.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0

What's this guideline please? I must have missed this one cos I can't think what you mean!:j30/7/10:j

naps? in same room? now would that guideline be the one that says its ok to nap in same room - or the one that says its not? or perhaps they are advising that the baby sleeps in a different house? hard to tell these days - and exactly where do these guidelines emanate from? WHO is telling us these things? its ok for the Docs and Midwives and HVs to talk about guidelines and experts - but WHO are they? give us names and we can look them up and see for ourselves if they are respected experts (and if they have children themselves). DONT hide behind 'guidelines'! we DO have a right to know WHO is recommending these measures and what their qualifications are!0

Thinking about it, I assume it's along the same lines as why they should sleep in your room for the first six months, because of the risk of cot death. If they're in the same room you are aware of their breathing and they are aware of yours, which does make a difference in terms of cot death. I can probably find the relevant research if anyone wants it. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

good luck finding research skintchick - I could probably find research papers which say exactly the opposite! the problem with research papers is that they dont always have any authority behind them. then they get published in medical journals and suddenly everyones on the bandwagon! a few years later and someone does proper clinical trials - and the original research is WRONG! or people die because the research was wrong! and it takes a court of law to establish that.
I dont trust the medical profession, the drug companies or so-called professionals who havent actually had any experience in the field they 'advise' in. my 55 years of life have taught me to trust those who KNOW what they are talking about! and some wet behind the ears uni grad doesnt impress me!0 -
oh guidelines again. I dont know why some parents think they are rules. I didnt use wipes after my first born, in the first 8 weeks, because my first developed a really bad rash and I ended up having to get cream to clear it up. I was told it was using scented wipes that caused it. I didnt know about any guideline then and I tend to ignore most guidelines now as I have had four children and prefer to use my own experience.:starmod:Sealed Pot Challenge Member 1189:starmod:0

The SIDS guideline that the baby should take all naps in the same room as you like the night time sleeps.
It may have been the same when DD1 was born, but I don't remember it. This time it was brought up at the same time as the chat about keeping them in your room until 6 months and emphasised quite strongly.0 -

I think Mumslave is right ,there aren't really any rules.0 -
I did this anyway ,didn't even know it was a guideline. It was just easier for me as I liked to check up on them a lot.

I was the same, I mainly did it because I couldn't be bothered traipsing up the stairs each time I wanted to check up on them :rotfl:
I do know quite a few people who put them upstairs in the bedroom so as not to disturb them who were a bit surprised by the guideline.0 -
We got shown the cotton wool and water method in the hosp, E was in SCBU and when he actually got discharged from there into my room for me he had nappy rash and the MW accused me of you using wipes!!! I was like erm no he came from special care with his nappy rash where they use cotton wool
Anyhoo, we used cotton wool for a few weeks then we quickly changed to wipes, so much more convinent and he doesnt get a rash with them
He has had nappy rash once and it was when he had the runs so I dont blame the wipesDebt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)
