Do you know what a massive pain it is to have to cancel your card and set up new visa debits? Do you know what a massive inconvenience it is to go through ID fraud and try to get your money back? It has happened to me - nearly £2,000 in one day which took 6 weeks to recover.

The person stole my ID with a copy of my card and charged a number £400-£500 transactions to some kind of card which can be loaded with money to be used abroad. It didn't matter that they lived in the South East.

I had to take a day off work as there was so much time involved at the bank to resolve that. They wouldn't even speak to me on the phone as the person had already changed my person details!

Why should I have to go through that when other people have had the same problem at the same store recently.

What am asking is for some common sense out there - I don't care if your boss says you can't help... put a piece of paper on the wall for godsake. Think about the distress other people have to go through - don't be a selfish jobsworth.

Erm, yes. I happened to me a week before christmas.

No biggie really. The bank called me to tell me they'd detected fraud, cancelled my card, went through all my transactions on the phone and ordered me a new card there and then. Took 5 mins to sort and got the money back immediatley. While waiting for a new card they transferred my money into another account I held with them.

Really really simple process, I'd consider changing banks if I were you.

Also, setting up debits from a card is a really bad idea.

Just to clarify some things in this post for you. It sounds to me like a malfunction with the machine and not a case of fraud. Sainsbury's do have access to the machine but unfortunately cannot fix it or give you your card back. Also, Sainsbury's staff are not allowed to put any 'Out of Order' signs on the machines. Do not ask me the exact reason for this, because I don't know. It seems a silly rule to me and yes it can be very frustrating, but there must be some logic behind it. It isn't a Sainsbury's policy though, it a bank rule.

All the Sainsbury's staff can do is report the problem to an ATM engineer and they will come out to fix it. Make sure you tell them to do this in the store and don't use the machine for a while until you know it's been repaired.
