  • Just had my offer of a free holiday - was told this is not a scam & I don't have to do anything or pay anything except £29 fee per person (HOliday is for 4 people to Spain, Portugal or Canaries. Woohoo (not!) Just listened politely and askes what I'd done. Was told it was a prize for completing a small survey at the beginning of the month. Only had to call 0800 988 9904 straight away and quote IL89. Ok then.

I too have just had a call from them with an offer of a free holiday. Free apart from £29.5 pp booking fee and travel of 120 miles to a presentation for which I would get £25 in shopping vouchers to cover expenses. When I asked if I could use them to buy petrol to get there and back I was told no. I also had to decide there and then when in the next 6 weeks I wanted to go to said presentation. Oh and btw the holiday was self catering. When I said I needed to think about it she hung up. I have been to similar and it a front for a time share although they don't call it that in those words. Be wary unless you want to buy into their product.
  • Just had a phone call from 01268557600 - same deal as everyone above. My internal alarm bell started going off as soon as she said that I'd been awarded a free holiday but I decided to stick with it and see what they said (you never know!) They repeatedly confirmed that I was a homeowner, how much our household income was and if I was married or living with my partner.

They almost had me fooled until they started trying to make me book in for the "presentation" near Tottenham Court Road, which both me and my partner would have to attend with ID. I said I couldn't possibly arrange anything like that without discussing it with him so she said she'll call back tomorrow.

I immediately Googled their number and found tons of websites/blogs/forum posts outing this as a scam/hard sell. They are now labeled in my phone as "scam" and I won't be answering tomorrow.

It's been going on for a while looking at this blog post: http://www.ianfitter.com/blog/2006/03/07/how-free-is-a-free-holiday/
    Debt at worst: £16,879
    Debt currently: £743 (11/10/11)
    (getting there slowly! :rotfl: )

Interesting that someone actually went on the holiday - must be amongst the few. I have just been called - luckily radar was up and I told them to remove me from database.

I have NEVER filled in a form with our ex-directory NEVER published home phone number on it. Where did they get my number ???

Our personal finances are such that I (like many I suspect) am UNABLE to provide my family with a holiday abroad this year, and possibly for many years to come :(. SCAMS (and yes it is a SCAM) pray on vulnerable people, tempted in the current economic climate to go on these things .

If I have "WON" a free holiday - the next words I want to hear from the persons mouth is "Where do I post the travel voucher?".

OH filled in a survey at the airport and we were called several times a day by CLC for the first fornight we were back despite asking to be removed from the database.

Ironic really that I was actually returning from a holiday I had actually won, which was all arranged by the PR company, only thing I had to do was print off the flight tickets!

    harley,

It is really nice of you to trawl the internet and then come to MSE to give a glowing report of Club La Costa. Unfortunately, a quick google gives very different thoughts. Or bung "Club La Costa" into the search facility above and put "forums" and there is loads of stuff about this concern.

Cynical people might think that after just one post you are a "plant" and you are "spamming"! I am too polite to suggest this, but perhaps you will take the time to look around MSE and give us your considered opinion on many of the other thousands of posters.

If you don't return, I regret that many others will think that you are not " geniue" .

  • Just received a call from Club La Costa saying we have won a holiday via a survey we completed this time last year. All we would have to pay would be £29.50 admin fee for a holiday for 4 to tenerife or Costa De La Sol. Sounded good! so we stayed on the line to hear more. Apparently we would be able to pick up the documentation at a local holiday inn (Doncaster) at a 2 hour presentation. I asked the caller if it was a holiday club or timeshare and they wouldn't out and out state it wasn't, she said their people would be showing their products (or in other words, yes). As we've been to this type of thing before we didn't want to sit through another afternoon of someone telling us how much we could save by joining their scheme. If you've got the brass neck to stick it out I'd say what have you got to lose, but if you're easily riled by hard selling tactics from people who don't understand the meaning of the word NO, I'd give it a miss. OK, we've probably missed out on a good cheap holiday but that's our choice.
