Redstar imports Dublin beware !

Interesting this thread. It feels good not to be alone in this. I can tell you my story and you might get some comfort.
I bought an iPAD in November (22nd it was) for 330 pounds - thought it was too good to be true. Then it became obvious, with the snow and everything, that things were not looking good for delivery. So I emailed them. As with every time I have ever emailed, I got a reply (Kelly Adair was always very friendly and helpful). Within a day I got a phone call from Brian (the owner) to say that he was sorry for the delay. Sounded very very genuine.
I did the same - went on Google Maps, looked up all over the net for info about them. Was concerned about the lack of info.
Then, in December, I cancelled. I was offered a refund of 50 pound to keep the order open but I declined and my order status changed. I noticed a change in the company after that. Less information, live chat never working, two or three different staff returning emails (I was emailing every day at this stage). So, I almost gave up on it ,until late January when I was told my refund had been processed and to expect it in three working days.
This never materialised. but I got a lovely email saying that they were in trouble and that the BACs had not gone through. By the start of this month, I started really losing my patience. I was told that there was a meeting of the owner on Feb 7th and they would get back to me about my order. To be fair to them, they did get back to me to say that the company had gone bust. I said I had heard they were a fraudulent company and this was the email I got back :
Marc,
All idle speculation on the forums. We are refunding everyone and have not broken any laws. We have remained in contact with our customers, posted an update on our site and are replying to emails informing customers when the first batch of refunds are due. Feel free to contact the police or whoever you wish, this is a civil matter.
We realise the news that we have ceased trading has came as a shock to our customers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and wish to assure you that we are doing all we can to expedite customer refunds.
Within the next 7 days we will update our website with a new postal address for you to use for correspondence as we know some people would prefer to put things in writing, you can however still contact us via email on info@redstarimports .com and receive the exact same correspondence.
All refunds are being processed within 30 days of the 8th February 2011. Please keep checking our website as we will be posting new information there as soon as its available.
We didn't take the decision to cease trading lightly, we have had staff redundancies and understand this is a heart breaking time for all involved.
We would like to stress again that refunds WILL be processed, we stopped trading for this very purpose. We are a small family run enterprise and do not wish to see anyone out of pocket.
Also it has became apparent that a few of our non trade customers in the UK have taken to the internet to post claims of fraud and deception, we strongly deny such allegations and would respectfully ask that you please refrain from posting such comments until a time when we can resolve this situation amicably.
We will update you again next Monday 14th Feb as we are in the process of clearing funds for the first wave of customer refunds.
Regards
Red Star Imports
and to be fair, they have been true to their word so far.
So, I would say lets trust them until we cant trust them (if that makes sense) and if refunds start coming through this week, we can feel sorry for a company that is genuinely sorry to have let down its customers.
Good luck all0 -
I have to agree with you, as long as they keep their word and actually start to refund then its just an unfortunate set of circumstances for us all. My order id is being refunded this week, as of yet no word and I have checked my bank. Lets see how things develop this week.0

Just a thought, these address could be mailboxes as they were always referring to a place called donegal in ireland when the delays started. I think perhaps this is a company from europe or china with an office address in dublin and warehouses all ova?
Nope, if this is definatly NOT the case, the address was CLEARLY given on the website and also said this was a Dublin office in James street. As this poster stated
An office could be simply a mailbox or sumthing simple.
This was an answer in relation to asking why there was no registered company number on the website, this had nothing to do with an mailbox, your quoting out of contextsalacious_crumb wrote: »and to be fair, they have been true to their word so far.

what word have they kept? they took money and did not deliver the goods to the people they took the money from and you say to trust them? You feel sorry for them? Give me a break
2 new posters who claims to have a problem and now is standing up for redstar imports. You 2 seem to be happy to wait and see what happens (again), anyone who had really gave redstar imports the amount of money involved i doubt would be so forgiving.
Also i must point out that if you use google, considering how `well established` this `buisness` claimed to be, there was NOTHING... ABSOLUTLY NOTHING on google about them until december, very, very strange for a company who claims to have been running for 8 years. If there was such a thing as overseas offices as they are claiming, then surely there would have also websites for the overseas depots, and not just for the Dublin one which i cannot find.
But one thing i would agree with is a copy and paste of a part of this email salacious crumb claims to have recieved and that is this:
"......Feel free to contact the police or whoever you wish, this is a civil matter."
cant stress this enough, if they have nothing to hide and this was a legit company, then there will be no problem in doing so. But it would stop being a civil matter if this was not above board.0 -
Red Star Imports Ireland
Update 2 14th Feb 2011
Refunds for all order IDS starting with 10 or 11 will be made the week starting 21st Feb 2011
Please note - To facilitiate the refunds due we are trying to raise the required funds from our European and Asian partners, the recent speculation and slanderous remarks posted on forums online will only serve to jeopardise this process due to the negative comments. We are doing all we can, as fast as we can so we ask you to RESERVE judgment until the 30 day timeframe we have created is up. Thank you.
Update 14th Feb 2011
All outstanding orders with an order ID starting with the numbers 09 are being refunded this week. If you order number looks like this (for example) 091219-204932-8741 with an 09 ref at the very start, your refund will be issued this week via BACS or cheque. PLEASE NOTE THIS ORDER PREFIX DOES NOT RELATE TO ORDERS FROM 2009, IT WAS SIMPLY THE LAST PREFIX BEFORE WE INTRODUCED THE DATE BASED PREFIX WE USED FROM NOV/DEC 2010
More refunds will follow next and so forth.
We would like to thank our customers for their messages of support during this diffcult time.
If you still need to contact us, please do so via email using info@redstarimports.com. Please do allow approx 24-48hrs for a reply as we have one member of staff dealing with all requests at this stage. We will post another update here again within 7 days or sooner.0 -

Im not sticking up for this company, Im just allowing them to process my refund as they are claiming to. I have been to CAB, and my uncle is a peeler and they have all told me the same, allow them to process the refund, if they dont sue their areses off.
Just becuase Im being resonable, doesnt mean Im not who I say I am. Sounds like you a bullying people into a certain mentalilty.
Lets just agree to disagree. BTW Im fast, I know I am, Im a single mum...0 -
