  • I am in the same situation - paid £600 for a TV and have been lied to for months. I've called the Garda in Dublin and have logged the situation with the fraud squad.

    Guys,

First of all I think everyone here needs to calm down and be a bit more rational. I have been a trade customer of Red Star imports for just over 12 months. They are/were a legitimate company and offered a good service until December last year. Then the problems struck, and as it would turn out these problems (a long with other factors Im sure) has resulted in them going out of business.

I have a TV to return to them, so Im not sure how this will work out as I may be stuck with it. (anyone here need a 3D tv? :)

Going out of business is a horrible thing to do and I'm sure it was their last resort. They are well known in some trade circles in Ireland so for god sake stop with all the fraud accusations as you just look stupid!

Allow them the time to carry out the actions as described on the notice on their website, if they fail with this then yes by all means we should escalate things, but stop baying for blood so early as Im sure it will only hinder any possible resolution from this company.
  • Sweetibiza100, each to their own and no I dont work for them, I just was a customer, just like you and can voice my opinion also. Im sorry to disappoint that its not all doom and gloom.
  • I've been had too. I've logged it on Watchdog now. Suggest you all do the same, or we all come together to sort this out in court. That's £615 of hard money gone.

Watchdog cant really do anything if the company is bust.

  • New update on their site as of this afternoon (cant post the link)

I have also got an email stating that I can return the TV, will see how I get on!
  • Paid for I Pad 375£ inc VAT through BACS on 29th november 2010, paid becouse company sound legitamate at a time could not find any bad or any good comments about one searched on @ for 2 days before doing this risky move...
Week later asked for update they replyed with surprise Neverending painfull story started...When did you sent your money?- they asked. Gave them order number thay seem to respond ok asked to wait (adverse weather) then wait (bad delivery situation) then wait (warehouse pipe bursts) then wait (for just 10 days) as Kelly Aldair ,person who responded to all my e mails, from begining, left for holidays, Anna Rogan replied, then wait (another week) Logan Hardy replied as (Anna left), asked for refund and here we are company ceased to trade...
Trying to find out what i can do now ... seems like not a lot, got friends in Dublin they will find out about that company more than i can from UK.
I won't ever use BACS again for purchasing anything thanks to Redstarimports dot com

I saw these guys at the end of November whilst looking for an ipad myself and was very tempted by the prices they were advertising, but alarm bells were ringing for a few good reasons:

    1) there was a photo on the main page of the so called office staff standing in front of a red star imports plaque and there were about 18 personel which i found seriously strange because they only sold about 15 different items, each with no more than 6 in stock, why would they need so much staff for such a small inventory?

    2) you could only pay by BACS , why would an established buisness not accept other forms of payment? very dodgy

    3) There was no postcode on to the address at the bottom of the page , i believe the address was something like 314-316 james street, Dublin.....why no postcode

    4) their `instant chat` always showed as on, but when you clicked on it there was never anyone there, stange for a buisness so small with 18 staff working there, and you could only ever talk to someone by email.

    5) I decided to do some reserch and could not find ANYTHING about them on google, no customer reports or reviews, just pages of people wondering if they were legit and whois pages

6)last but BY FAR not least i decided to think outside the box and went onto google maps 3d street view and go up and down James street in Dublin to see if the offices physicaly existed and although they say they were are 314-316 James street Dublin (i belive this was the advertised address, although i may be slightly wrong as it was a while ago), the street only went up as far as the early 230ish (cant remember the exact house numbers), there was then a couple of houses worth of space that was a building site (no more than 3 house spaces) before the street split into 2 and changed names on both sides of the split. I went up and down on google maps for over an hour and could not find any number higher than this. Admittedly its frustrating using this method, and it may well be there, but i was jiggered if i could find it or any building number higher than i stated.

By this time i had long decided they were not worth the risk. Now it seriously looks like alot of people have been parted of cash for an nothing in return.
I hope i am wrong and you folks get your cash back, as i hate to see people gettng ripped off, but if i were you i would be contacting the police as well as any financial recoarse you are trying incase this was a scam.

One last thing i feel i must add, it seems quite a few people are worried about loosing their hard earned money, and there is a new poster KeithWylie telling those who have lost quite a serious amount of money to calm down, and that hes convinced that things will work out for the best, at the same time as `claiming` to "...have a TV to return to them..." on this thread (please note he claims to have but 1 here) and "6 TVS" on another thread he created about redstarimports.com, (see his user profile and the 5 posts he has made for the other thread) whilst only posting on redstarimports.com threads. Easy to say when your not the one who has paid good money for nothing (so far) and certainly doesnt sound like someone on the side of the people who are left out of pocket considering 2 of his posts regarding quantity dont dont tell the same story.
If you are owned money from REDSTARIMPORTS.COM, i wouldnt hang around and wait to see if it sorts itself out. I would take every legal method availble to me to try and recover my money ASAP, regardless to which some poster is advising you to do, after all, its your money and the longer it drags on, the more remote it would seem of an amicable resolution.
  • i believe the address was something like 314-316 james street, Dublin.....why no postcode

It is only Dublin city that has a form of postcode, and this will only be a one or 2 digit number. (James St is Dublin 8).
It is not a postcode as we in the UK have, but simply a postal district, and even if you send a letter without this code, it will still be delivered.
Outside of Dublin city, there are no codes at all, and this is the case for all of Ireland apart from Cork.
