Well I phoned the branch again today (didn't get through yesterday, just rang out). The advisor said it was a straight decline, no reason given. I've got my CRA reports from both and know there's nothing adverse on them.

Rubbish customer service in my view - I'm not asking for special treatment just to get an offline debit card so when I'm stood at a station at 11pm trying to pay to get my car out of the car park I don't have to worry. As a woman travelling alone it is a major consideration to me as I travel all over the UK. Same goes for petrol stations which are unattended.

My money might not be much to them (£35k plus salary) but its going to the Nationwide now - who have opened me a full current account with no problems and are switching all my payments for me.

I just wanted to be treated like an adult not a child. I wasn't asking for an overdraft or anything else (though I realise this is possible with a offline debit card and they have to check the risks).

In time RBS could have made a tidy sum out of me but it won't be happening now.

don't worry too much, i got declined by Halifax also with no adverse data on my file, with no explanation as to why. I'm now with the Co-Op and haven't looked back

Hopefully I won't either, and our mortgage is with the Nationwide, so hopefully when the 2 year tracker is up we can get a good deal with being an existing customer:j

    thanks

Tiger if it makes you feel any better.

I started working for natwest in February 2004 and it took me 2 years to get a full current account and I worked for the bank!!!!

Youll actually be surprised how many people who work within the group who only have basic bank account.

Sadly it doesn't surprise me that they treat their staff like that - in a lot of cases it reflects on the level of customer service received.

When I went to university many years ago one of my friends had worked for Barclays and you had to have your account with them if you worked for them. If you went 1p overdrawn you had to go in and explain yourself to the manager she told me.

She also said you couldn't get an overdraft or credit card if you worked for them at that time.
