OP good luck with your appeal.

As the mistake was not by RBS why they be required to put the OP back in any position as they have not done anything untoward. It's BG who caused the problem so they would be the ones to ask for compensation etc.

Obviously, there is no harm in making a underwriter aware of this, but I would suspect RBS have other issues as they would want you to move accounts to make money from you.

    Agree with PNPSUKNET's comments..

The fact you can prove its a mistake, and not one of your own making, means RBS are required to put you back into the position you would have been had this never occured in the first instance.

I wonder how soon 'soon' is. What was supposedly going to happen before the end of the year is now 'within two years' from those up above.

A hitch perhaps? (keeping fingers crossed)

A delay in the sale of RBS to Satander? :T

I have already opened two new RBS accounts in Scotland, but have kept open one English RBS account at my local branch in hopes that the sale would not go through. I suspect it will go through, but any delay is welcome. I wonder if Satander have realized how many RBS customers have opted to jump ship to Scotland?

The problem around this is that BG have repaid the unpaid item fee, which RBS can see. I don't know what else I can do. I was even told when I originally cancelled the direct debit with the bank (to be on the safe side, ironically) that I would not be charged.
I was told specifically that this was the reason for decline by the way.

I am very surprised if that is the only factor. I am even more surprised that they told you why your application had been declined. That is usually kept confidential and flunkies in the branch don't even have access to that level of info.

Anyway, write and complain per Darryl_C suggestion. I doubt this will get you anywhere but I shall keep my fingers crossed.

Alternatively switch your account to a.n.other bank.:j

I was told categorically by the girl in the branch that that was the only reason. There wouldn't be any other reason - I own my own home, (albeit only since October 2010) appear on the electoral roll, earn a substantial salary, no arrears or adverse on my credit files (all of which I check regularly) - when I was first declined they didn't volunteer the information so I took it all in to show them. That was when I was told this was why.

If there are any posters who work in RBS or Natwest they may be able to shed more light

Their is more to it, someone I work worth used to work for RBS. They said you get a higher internal score the more products you had, eg loans etc

Although it is a factor there is absolutely no way you can be categorically told it was the only reason. Credit scoring works in such a way that no individual can know. It's a computer decision, end of.

I am not disputing what you were told, I was not there. I am suggesting that you may have misunderstood or what you were told is ............. incorrect. I wish I had a pound for every time I was given misinformation by a poorly trained bank employee.

My son has an account with RBS. He has many defaults including 6 for late credit card payments but he is approved for loans et al.

Eventually I have persuaded him to arrange a direct debit to pay his CC in full.
