bubble bath and shower gel are pretty similar formulations so you could get away with using those.
Most of the time the cost is driven by the fragrance and any niceties like vitamin e which will be the most expensive ingrediants £ for lb.
Maybe water down the shop bought product as they are quite thick, which doesnt serve any purpose other than to make the liquid stay on your hands longer. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
i put the cheapy supermarket bubble bath into a pump foam bottle. you know the special 'foamy' face washes and stuff you can get? they are normally a bit more expensive but you can refill and the foamynes still works with my cheap green bath foam from tesco. you caould even drop a bit of tea tree in there, for the anti bac action. It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

This book is on my wishlist for Christmas:
Making Natural Liquid Soaps
It has good reviews, but I can't comment on it personally.

I have made bar soap in the past and I have tried a few times to make liquid soap but just cant get it right and i have a few books. It always seperates out in the container. Some others may have better methods but I am giving that one a miss. It certainly doesnt work out cheaper in my opinion0

Why not borrow it from your local library first? Just reserved a Good Housekeeping book on slow cookery to check whether its worth buying.0 -
Save up your ends of bar soap, the slivers which usually just dissolve in the soap dish, dissolve in boiling water & use this. You will need quite a bit of soap, 6-8 slivers, & it's best to add the boiling water a little bit at a time as it needs to be really hot to get the best result & the soap takes a while to dissolve. If the slivers are really dry you can speed up the process by grating them. Shake up LOTS in between adding the boiling water. Leave for 2-3 days, shake again & you have something akin to liquid soap, does the job but not as nice as shop bought stuff.

Hi
I cannot take the credit but I read on another OS thread about Ecover Washing Up Liquid being used as liquid hand soap. I was particularly interested in this as I was looking to save some money but I have quite sensitive and dry skin and was wary about using some of the harsher soaps. I bought the ecover wul with camomile and marigold and so far so good.

I buy the Knight one in our local Poundland - 1 litre bottle, so the cost per mL isn't much more than a shower gel, and it's antibac. The cheapest someone came up with a while back was Tesco's 500 mL for 24p, but it's back to the normal price now, which is 74p, so it actually works out more expensive than the Knights.0
