I use an iPad, and when scrolling have at times inadvertently touched. The abuse button - I have then gone back and corrected this- but is it only me who has this problem?

In fairness I think it depends where you visit. The boards I am a regular on are generally extremely friendly and most welcoming - in fact I would go so far as to say they are almost "self moderating" as the community members there simply don't accept rudeness and unpleasantness and always report these when spotted. On the other hand there are some boards where rudeness almost seems to be expected, which is a shame as I know people are put off from posting by that.

I think one of the greatest shames of all, at a time when the board is most needed, is the way many posters receive sarcasm or abuse on the benefits board.

As a long term MSE user, when I needed some info with regards a benefit change of circumstances recently, the last place I would have gone to to ask for some advice was the benefit board and I know many people feel that way now.

There is some great advice being given on the board and then there is the sarcasm, the underlying or straight out accusations and totally unnecessary comments.

If someone is a single parent asking about benefit entitlement, they don't need to hear that they should have thought about it before becoming pregnant. If someone asks about informing tax credits that their partner is moving in, they don't need suspicions raised about why they are informing now, or a recent one about someone who started home educating a year ago and asking about benefits, did they really need to be told that someone thought it was suspicious how they started HE'ing a year before they had to start looking for work?

If someone asks a question that could have been found using the search, they are told. if someone searches and brings a post up that is a couple of years old, they're told to start their own thread. Sometimes, I feel people can't win.

I totally appreciate that the board posters are not there to offer advice on defrauding the system, however the board is meant for advice on the situation only, not opinion on whether fraud is going on, where it is not obviously the case. Not opinion on whether someone should be claiming benefits because they have over £6,000 in savings - they are still entitled to benefits.

As I say, the benefit board is the last place I would ask for advice and that is a great, great shame.

I'm having the same problem. I'm hoping that I haven't touched the button and not noticed, or I may have upset somebody. Sorry if I have.

    Hi Mariner13 and daaave

I'll have a look into it this week.

One thing to remember, though, is as that's not a Gambling board there are strict rules on what can and cannot be posted on there (see the info at the top) so if any posts/threads are about Gambling then they should be coming off.

    Andrea :)

Any news on this ? I only ask because another thread has completely disappeared from GIOL today!

Just a reminder that abuse of the Spam button was supposed to have been looked into.

Could we have an update please?
