knickers are relatively new invention - men used to wear long shirts and tuck the tails between their legs. Just think of that every time you see Mr Darcy emerge from that lake :rotfl:

And ladies underwear didn't have crotch seams which is why the Can Can was such a popular dance...

Anyroad, on to flying. Him Indoors sorted out one of the cupboards last night, moving things around so I can actually reach the shelves and take stuff out. Well, more importantly, put it back:D

This has liberated space in the other 2 cupboards and may well result in a big old swap round over the weekend. I'm still trying to work out why we need 2 boxes of once used jiffy bags that are never the right size when you want to post anything:rotfl:

Also, we changed duvets last night so generated some washing; went through the bedding storage and chucked some pillows that had gone lumpy through washing and, of course, dysoned up after the drilling in the cupboard.

Question: How do you wash pillows without them going lumpy and misshapen? Did I read somewhere that you put a tennis ball in the washer with them, or was I imagining that?:D

Decluttered a truly disgusting kitchen sink. DW on. Ironing pile reducing slightly - DH did a load of his army kit last night so the living room now looks like a barracks.

Dog decluttered to vet to finalise pet passport. We're planning to take him to France in May. It would have been cheaper to put him in kennels!

Now going to have a cuppa before a HHC.

my mum passed away yesterday, she was 84. spent yesterday with family at her flat sorting things out and because i got there first cleaning up the mess the police left cos they had to break in, glass everywhere. i really appreciate you all for the things i've learned on here about cleaning and organising, whereas before i wouldn't have known where to start with the mess, i could get on confidently and have the flat clean and normal for when my siblings arrived. If they are feather filled wash in a WM on a warm/delicate wash.
If they are foam etc. then the best way is to put them in the bath, it's hard work. You might get away with putting a 'tack stitch' thru each end of the pillow and do a short wash in the machine.

Tennis ball is for TD, after wash.

  • Ok, having been distracted and creating several "ooh I must I must I must knit/crochet/embroider/preserve/dry one of those" lists, I've cunningly avoided a load of HHCs, but I do need to get on and stop dreaming, so
    HHC at 1145 ?

TD them HOT for a long time with either dryer balls or tennis balls. It fries any bugs that made it through the hot wash (pillows, duvets and cleaning cloths are the only stuff I wash really hot every time), and makes sure that the filling doesn't clump and go mouldy... I'm not sure how hot you can do synthetic fillings, but feathers can be washed at 90 and dried on hot for as long as it takes. Ex had allergies... but although I have feather duvets and pillows he never had problems here... no dustmite can survive my twice-yearly cooking :p Lightweight duvets and mattress toppers are done more frequently. Pillows twice a year, larger/heavier duvets when I can get them to the cleaners. Although I was talking to a friend about us taking ALL our bedding to the launderette with coffee/biscuits/books and making an event of it!

Feeling a bit better, but not up to driving yet. On the plus side, I've had a shower, so I'm clean. On the negative, ex called this morning to see how I was and we ended up having a disagreement again about how he claims to want to see me but doesn't do anything about it (apparently he can't make any kind of commitment to a time or date in case the kids decide they want to do something... I've pointed out that I have to make commitments in advance as my life also involves other people, so can't keep my diary clear on the off chance he can fit me in). I told him I think he's using the kids as an excuse, as they don't tend to be very interested in him after about 8pm so he works in the evenings. In fact, I suspect that the fact that he wants to see me makes him feel he shouldn't IYSWIM... he's difficult like that...

Oh well... meeting in 10 mins (with the ex...) so I'd better locate the phone and the work we're supposed to be going over!
