Looks like I had a narrow escape from Buymobilephones.net for cancelling the contract with orange. They sneekily changed their terms and conditions on 21/2/2011

    Last week it read
14.1.1. In the event that you are disconnected from your network for any reason within the period of 120 days from your initial billing date, you will be invoiced for the minimum sum of 240 GBP plus VAT per handset to cover the costs of the goods provided, loss of income and administration. Invoices will referred to Daniels Silverman Limited. All charges and legal fees incurred will be the responsibility of the customer and will be legally enforceable.

    and now it reads
14.1.1. In the event that you are disconnected from your network for any reason within the period of your minimum term contract, you will be invoiced for the minimum sum of 240 GBP plus VAT per handset to cover the costs of the goods provided, loss of income and administration. Invoices will referred to Daniels Silverman Limited. All charges and legal fees incurred will be the responsibility of the customer and will be legally enforceable.

The contract of any mobile provider is pretty watertight, as I've said before, if they want the phone back as a condition of cancelling the contract then you can either take it or leave it, they don't have to cancel the contract, it's a gesture of goodwill
  • So can anyone advice me the right course of action I should take....send phone back or not?

I'd take that, give em the phone as a settlement and go elsewhere,

Well whadaya know, just spoke to orange about my lack of signal at home and around manchester, basically can see the signal dropping up and down all the time and barely reaching a 3g signal. Was informed that 1 of 2 of the masts near to where i live has no power to it so is completely down from the 16th of feb until don't know when as it isn't work to be done by orange. Was told to use the share tmobile option but don't want to as it is only 2g which i was informed goes to 3g in april. A mark has been put on my account as to my inquiry about lack of signal and dropped calls and was asked to call back if problem is still ongoing in a week or so for a possible discount.

Call also dropped during the call and i will check on sitefinder and drive past the mast tomorrow to double check itisn't just a fob off as my signal has always been !!!! poor.
  • Well Orange eventually phoned me back 10 mins ago, they have agreed to cancel my contract once they get the phone back, now that worries me no end cos not one person in Orange knows what the next person is doing. Worried that once it goes in the post that it's never to be seen or heard of again!

Make sure you get a tracking number for the parcel and get it tattood, loosing the phone would be a nightmare!!!! How did you go about cancelling it
  • Crap signal since day one, 3 phones and 2 sims later and still the same.

Are you the same guy posting on the FB page? I got told last week that both companies are merging as of April so they are just fobbing you off when you've called before.

Yes posting on FB too, not sure what to do tho, weather to stick with it or try and cancel, there's a t mobile mast near my house so weather it will make a difference or not i'm not sure, looking on the sitefinder there are o2 masts all over so looks good. Also the fact that 12 month contracts and iphone 5 will be out around june i might just wait and see but will probably cost a bomb for it anyway.
  • Got year left too but dont think I can see it out. I absolutely love the iPhone, with all the problems I've had I'm unsure what network to go to.
