Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 6th Feb. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Hubby built another raised bed yesterday & today he's sorting out the cloche, he's also making a polycarbonate top to put over the existing bed next winter.
No chance of getting the washing dry outside & the tumble dryer needs resetting yet again and as it takes about an hour to prise it out from under the counter I not going to bother asking hubby to do it again. The clothes will have to go on the maiden, the heating's not on as it is too mild so I may end up putting the maiden in the spare room & putting a small heater on in there.
Rubber chicken for lunch today, I shall cook it early, strip all the meat off the carcass & make as many meals as possible with it.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester and all who follow,

DGS had me up at 6 so we have watched CBeebs and had a dance already this morning. Not too bad a night. Went down at 8 and woke at 12 for a bottle, DH who is a big softie put him in our bed and he slept ok most of the night, can't say I did really, he is a little wriggler.

Well had an awful evening. Our best friends for the last 25yrs have split up. He has been seeing someone else and wants a fresh start. They have 4 kids ranging from 23 to 13. As you can imagine she is in absolute bits. I can't believe this is the same man I have known for all these years. She couldn't speak for crying last night, it was awful. I just hope this other bl@@dy woman is worth it. DH and I are so sad, it feels like the world has been tipped upside down. She is going to need lots of support to get through this. Worst thing is DH and he have always been very close DH new nothing about it:( so sad for the whole family

Anway on a lighter note Roast pork for dinner and family visiting. DD and BF and DGS will be staying so there will be 10 of us. I have made apple crumble already and will make a choc cake this morning. I will just lay lunch out and let everyone help themselves

Too dark to see the weather. Have a good day friends x

    Morning everyone.

I've slet for 12 hours  was really tired yesterday so took myself off to bed to read the new Stuart McBride and promptly nodded off. Woke intermittently during the night, had weird dreams (are there any other sort) and then work properly about 10 mins ago.

Plans for today are to be no spend - go for a walk (Gibside) and then read my book. CBA doing housework and haven't ironed anything for years. Might do some baking but the danger is that I then eat the results  which is not good!

    Happy Sunday to everyone.
  • Morning Hester and all to follow,
Isn't it great being able to go out in the garden. OH and I did some planting yesterday. Just maybe we are turning our back on winter (I hope).
Made 2 loaves yesterday, WM on for 4 loads yesterday and still got more!!! DW on twice and hand washing in the sink.
Grey and very windy here atm. so no washing on the line:(
Roast veg leftovers will be made into soup this morning. Chicken & boiled bacon for lunch today (for 11) so will make chicken & lentil soup this afternoon. Should be enough meat left over for at least 2 meals.
Don't think I'll get any sewing time today - need to do tidying and cleaning!!
Welcome to all new faces, hugs to all who need, Happy Sunday, Silver x

Had a horrendous day yesterday. i think it was stress of being shut away in here with DS for 4 days and not getting housework done and having to try to get it done yesterday. I then had a panic attack about the amount of work there always is and that hamster wheel feeling about it being never ending:o. There is just not enough hours in the week to work 2 days, care for DS one to one 24 hrs a day, clean, cook everything from scratch, wash, iron, meal plan, bake, shop, do accounts etc.
I feel totally knackered all the time and am always chasing my tail.
i have also this week suddenly realised that we will never have a normal life with DS. He isnt growing up the same a s others and in many ways it is lke having a 7 year old baby:(. I got very down about it as it looks like it is always going to be that way for him and I didnt want that sort of life for my boy.
Had a huge row with DH in the afternoon which got sorted. i feel like I have no time for him as DS and everything else takes all my energy up. It is usually 10pm by the time we get anytime alone as DS is up and down stairs. By then we are both totally brain dead and wound up from the constant tourettes noises.
could do with a lie in but DS up at silly o clock and so I had to get up.
dont even feel like getting dressed.
I am making a roast chicken dinner today but apart from that not much OSing going on.
Am going to spend some time with DS trying to keep him calm and happy.
sorry for being such a moaner.....i have nothing to moan about compared to someone like Nic whose world has just collapsed around them:(

Need to get the kids out today, so a stroll to the park sounds good to me. Oh no i forgot DD's are going to MIL/FIL so just DS to take.

Hugs NPM - you do so much and cope so well so a mini meltdown is only to be expected. Have you thought about some respite for DS? I used to work at a respite centre and the children always had such fun. Hugs to you. That cake looked lovely by the way - I had a look on Facebook x

Please can anyone enlighten me to Facebook etiquette as Im a bit upset this morning as one of the my so called face book friends has accused me of stalking them because I looked at her pictures. Is this not allowed?

DS2 had a lovely day yesterday. As part of his xmas present i paid for him to go to cookery school for the day and he made loads of lovely goodies so no baking needed here for a few days. Today i have to organise some cleaning as no cleaner this week:(

Hope you all have a lovely day xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • BB he does help out but he works till 6 or 7 most nights and most weekends he works Sat so it is mostly me who is here to do it iyswim.
He cooks tea a couple of nights and washes up everynight but as he is at work I get the bulk of it to do......just that isnt a problem on its own...it is trying to get it done while caring for DS. Usually I get most done when he is at school but when he is off it builds up

    Good morning

NPM sending you a hug and wishing I was close enough to lend a hand or give you some time off.

Today am going to be a domestic goddess. I think I had some sort of virus last week - I felt tired but couldn't sleep, and was off my food (very rare, trust me!). Consequently, Faulty Towers is a total slum and just about every room needs cleaning and tidying. I also have a lot of ironing to do, and will try and fit some baking in too.

I've joined slimming world this past week as trying to lose weight on my own just isn't happening. Hopefully I will now be cooking the freezer collection at future dates instead of just looking at it blankly and making toast. Don't panic, I'm still feeding the house elf. His food is mostly batch cooked and already in the freezer in portions. I'm just trying to sneak in a quiet breakfast while the elf practices his ninja moves in the other room

    Take care all of you

p.s. edited to add Molly your friend is nuts. Why would you put photos on facebook if you didn't want people to look at them? I have cat and house elf photos on there and love it when people comment on them. Hugs x
