  • Roasties can be cooked from frozen (just think of the bagged ones you can buy! ) Just make sure that they are piping hot through out before serving.
  • To prevent this happening again you might like to do as I do.
I have an arrangement with two of my neighbours so when I buy a new bag they have a third of it. I'm paying £4.50 a bag for tates at the moment so for £1.50 they get about 18lbs or just over 8kg which is better value than the value potatoes at most supermarkets so we all save.

I do the same with onions as well.

I don't normally have this problem but with O/H working away recently I haven't used as many, but never thought about sharing with the neighbours and they are relatives (cousin) may work for other things too. Thanks.

If you're Ok for freezer space, then potatoe bakes all the way!!! Healthy, cheap & delicious!

1 cm slices of pots (with or without skin, your choice), choice of sliced onions/peppers/carrots/ham/chicken/cheese/just aboout anything that you can slice randomly in between pots or layed between to layers of pots, cover with tomato/cheese/white/sauce or milky pureed sweetcorn, top with cheese of choice & bake for about 45 mins on fairly high but not so the cheese burns.
I have also been know to add kidney beans & whole tins of baked beans, curry sauce, white wine etc to mine:D (Not all at once!)

    Hi Icemaiden,

Here are a couple of old threads that have advice on freezing potatoes that might help you:

    potato mash

    Freezing raw potatoes

Can I freeze par boiled spuds ready for roasting?

  • A trick we use is that we bake more potatoes than we are going to eat. We eat some, and leave the others to cool, we then put these in the fridge and heat them up in the microwave and eat them over the next few days.

I make either potato wedges or gnocchi with leftover potatoes - the gnocchi (little italian potato dumplings) freeze well and are delicions with a pasta sauce.
  • Hi folks, recipe suggestions needed please, I have about 3kg of potatoes left from my organic box because we've not been eating them with main meals so I need a 'main meal' idea which I can make with potatoes as the main ingreadient. I had thought of a big shepherds pie but wanted to see what you guys could come up with.

    Thanks!

You could cook some of it up and freeze it. I often cook extra roast potatos, and mash potatos and then put them in portions in the freezer, saves time and effort later on!!!!
  • We've just eaten baked spuds topped with cheese sauce with broccoli, sweetcorn, and bacon in it.Very filling and very cheap.
