Am I the only one who thinks the following are conspicuous and probably linked?

A poster that is blatantly the same person behaves as a troll.
The troll names are so obviously related that it is beyond doubt that it is the same person. If they wanted to hide the fact they would have made some attempt to hide it.
This poster (and all his identities) are very bullish but present incredibly weak arguments if any. Regardless of which side of the fence you are on you must recognise there are decent arguments that either side can present and your opinion is based on the balance of same.
A short time afterwards people are complaining about these blatant trolls.
When this happens a select number of posters seem to be trying to define a troll as someone from a particular side of the debate rather than someone just been irritating and not presenting reasoned arguments.

My revised opinion, after reading more on the site, is just let them get bored. If a partisan opinion of what defines a troll becomes established the site will become a one-sided farce. The genuine posters from the other (perceived troll) side will steadily disappear and the discussion will be as lifeless as it is on some other boards. This is no doubt the aim of the poster in question. I'm on neither side in this debate, but I'm disappointed by the bear that did this and even being a relatively new poster I think it isn't hard to see who it is by the style of the posts.

I know that if people are determinedly sad enough to keep creating usernames, there isnt much that can be done, but having to make several posts on other non-hidden boards (20/30/50?) before they can post on here/DT/Arms might just be too much of a hassle that they either stop doing it, or they modify their behaviour so they dont get banned so often and have to start all over again.

Anyway, just a thought. Please have a look and perhaps give the thread a 'bounce' if you have time.

Did EdInvestor go? That's a real shame. He/she was a great and helpful poster. That's the real problem I have with trolls. If its harmless banter it can clog the boards a bit but can be ignored. When it drives people away who are long term posters and actually provide a useful service, that's more serious. But how do you get rid of one without the other?

Sadly our lovely EdInvestor died about a year ago, Vivatifosi. As you say, she was a great and helpful poster.

i think what you really need is somewhere quiet, with only people you know, and who's opinions you respect to talk to.

I suggest you start your own forum, which is very simple these days and invite the people you want to talk too. very many people do it.

this kind of forum open to the whole of the internet is not really going to suit you

Thanks Jennifer_Jane, that's really sad. It also shows how if you focus on one part of the fora you miss out on what's happening on the others:o. EdInvestor was fantastic and helped me on one or two occasions for which I'll always be grateful. I'm glad she wasn't driven away from the boards, but far more sad to hear we won't benefit from her wisdom any more.

I'd still like to see the end of backbiting trolls through, the sort who drove NDG away and undertook an attack on fc for a while.

The original ghouls was bonkers in a bruno-esque sort of way and is probably a disturbed although unique individual.

Many of the subsequent ID's are bears being disruptive trolls though..

We all know it, and the list of posters immature enough to keep it going is pretty short.
