    Hi all,

Well today has been eventful to say the least.

Went for the scan this morning and my suspicions were confirmed, there were 2 babies....but only 1 heartbeat.

Still, it seemed happy enough beating away so im feeling good.

    Yay
    what happens now?

if its an early pregnancy the twin who has died just gets reabsorbed i think :( sorry to hear your news. How far along are you? Any chance that the 2nd twin could just be a few days behind hence no heartbeat? Glad you have one beating heart though :)

TBF, it took me 3 weeks to get my head kind of straight.. it really was a shock.. so I can't expect him to be any different can I?

The thing that smarts most is I asked the doc for contraception at the beginning of December and she said no.. I didn't think it was worth pushing the issue as I'd not had a period and hadn't had one for over a year when I had the others so didn't think I would this time either.. so to ovulate less than 4 months after having the baby was not usual.. I was also told I couldn't have a termination as it would require a surgical procedure which they wouldn't do so soon after a section due to the risk of damaging the scar on the uterus.. so I had no choice really.. the one consolation is this is all recorded in my docs notes.. I made sure of it.. and watched her type it. I don't think I could have gone through with a termination anyway.. I am a bit of a wuss!

Anyway.. either way.. WE made a baby, it WILL be cute and lovely, I will love it regardless of what he does and it will be looked after to the same standard my others have been.. And.. it better be a girl because I have NOTHING for a boy (though I would really like a boy this time to even things up a bit) and he would cost me a fortune.

It has happened twice to me.. the first time the dead twin stayed there and was engulfed by the placenta of DD1.. the placenta from the twin bled constantly throughout the pregnancy though.. and the MW brought me the placenta to show me the twin after the birth.. was gross but I am a bit odd like that.

the second time the second twin came away and there was so much blood.. it was horrible.. I had a scan at 8 weeks and nothing could be seen the uterus was just full of blood, I went back at 10 weeks and there were 10 ladies inc. me.. I was last.. and DS2 was the only baby to have survived that day. His little heart was beating away.. he is my little warrior.. he was then 2 months early and had 2 cardiac arrests and has some difficulties now.

  • It was a trainee sonographer, and he wasn't really sure what to make of it I dont think. He started talking quietly to the trained woman and doing a lot of pointing at the screen...I was trying to listen but the bloody nurse started chatting to me so I couldnt earwig.

Anyway, the woman took over scanning and showed me the screen, explained, then said because they first fetus was only measuring 7 weeks they would just leave things. I think she mentioned something about reabsortion but I could have just made that up. I did mention the bleeding but she didn't seem to bothered.

The last time I knew I had a dead baby inside me was the 48 hours between us being told Felix had died, and him being born....and this just doesn't feel like that. I feel happy that I have a baby alive and kicking not sad that there could have been another one. Perhaps that is just my view on early pregnancy? I know everyone is different.

If it was always going to happen, I am glad it happened now rather than any later.

I am still pregnant and that is all that matters.

    Yay.

PP - feel free to lock him in a room with my OH, just be prepared for your's to come away with a RIDUCLOUS yorkshire accent...lol. We all know you can do it on your own if needs be, its just a shame for your little gummy bear. And the current little tiddler :(
