rhesus negative - blood groups have either a +ve or -ve after them eg A+ve. Rhesus negative is when you are -ve and the baby is +ve. Anyway, it means that in labour you'll have to have an Anti D injection because yours and babys blood isn't compatible. I'm not explaining it very well I don't think!

Winnie - mine just said congrats, took my blood pressure, talked about possible m/c & birth plan/hospital options but it was all very general really. I'm hoping today's midwife appointment will be a bit more in depth! (oh and congrats!)

My cramping hasn't stopped yet & I'm 6+6 - been told it's perfectly normal. Just had my first midwife appointment & she's coming to see us at home on Sunday too :D Strangely just before I left home I had my first bout of morning sickness too  I thought I'd got away with it :o

Was the prune juice vile, Portsmouth ali? I need something but I'm not sure I stomach that! :lipsrseal

It wasn't too bad, very very sweet though. It worked for me :)

I also feel dreadful today. Phoned in sick this morning (my boss knows I'm pregnant and was very understanding bless her) , as soon as I got out of bed I felt very nauseous & faint. I think I overdid it a bit yesterday, had a hectic day at work then went food shopping in the evening, then did a load of housework. OH took our son to school, and I had a lie-in until 11am  I feel a bit less sick now but still very tired. Gonna try to eat something in a minute, maybe a bit of toast.

I know it sounds daft but I'm actually reassured by the fact that I feel ill - I had so few symptoms last time.

Pinkpig, you explained the Rhesus negative thing very well! I'm Rhesus negative, and had to have the injection after my son was born. I've been told as long as they know about it, it shouldn't cause any problems.

Hope everyone else is OK xxxx

I had my blood test results back and I think I'm rhesus negative too... can't find the damn letter at the minute to be sure though. What does it mean if you are?

    Hi Sequeena

Just popping in from the other thread to say that I'm RH negative and it's nothing to worry about - basically the baby you are carrying is more likely to be RH positive (that is if you partner has a positive blood group)

On saying that my 2 children have been RH negative like me but you will not normally know your baby's Rhesus factor until birth.

You should have routine bloods taken at around 28 weeks and will be given an anti d injection if necessary - this is to combat any antibodies that your body may have formed if yours and the baby's blood has crossed.
You will be given another injection of anti-d after the birth of your baby - if you need it.

If you experience any bleeding in pregnancy (hopefully you won't) it is important that you have an anti d injection as a precautionary measure.
I've had a lot of bleeding in this pregnancy so far (thankfully it seems to have stopped now) but have so far had quite a few injections of anti d and no doubt another coming at 28 weeks!

    Morning ladies!

Hi to all the newbies :j there's so many in just a few days!

Quick update from me (well, I'll try to be quick):
Went to the hospital Monday morning and they saw me straightaway. Did a scan and bean was jumping about all over the place - phew! Can't tell you what a relief. Then I had an internal (yuck) and they took blood. Seems my old cervical erosion might be playing up, but was told to rest for a few days and keep an eye on it (ha!).
They phoned me later that day to say my blood had shown that I'm Rhesus negative so I had to go in on Tuesday for an injection. I'll have to get another shot each time I have a procedure or a bleed.

So: always report a bleed, if it's red or brown, you never know: YOU might be Rhesus negative too!

The nurses were absolutely lovely and apart from the paperwork mixup my faith in the NHS staff (if not the system) is restored.

I probably won't get a scan at my booking appointment now, but that's ok. I've been told I'm just over 12 weeks, EDD 18th August. So I probably should head over to the "big" thread, but it's so nice and cosy around here :) I struggle to keep up with you guys, so I'm a bit daunted to move. Think I'll loiter for a while longer.

Hope everyone has a good day, sticky dust all around!

Caelshorn - so pleased everything was fine :)
I post on the big thread but still loiter here too as you can see :o

My husband is a teacher and I can't get a my first MW appt at a time when he can come with me. Does he need to be there with me?

Obviously when it's the scan he'll have told school and they'll have to let him come with me then, but I didn't think I needed him there at this appt.

I dont think its essential, my OH is coming with me but only because it just happens to be his day off anyway - he wasnt going to try and rearrange shifts for it. Like you said on the otherhand for the scan he will be telling his boss.
