Lovecake - Pleased to hear you have finally got your scan - can you not rearrange your appointments - I have rearranged my 20 week scan quite easily (but obviously i probably have a different health authority to you) - give them a call and see, they can only say no?
Thank you - I will try, but I won't go for it if they offer me any later dates as I will already be 12+5 at my booking appointment and 13+1 at my scan with the dates they have offered. I really don't want to leave it any later as this is my first baby and I am really anxious to talk to a MW - I really thought I would get my booking appointment sooner than almost 13 weeks  I feel like I am bumbling along not knowing what the hell I am doing and I just really want to talk to someone for reassurance(and obviously get the tests I need).
I already know I am rh- so I know I'll need Anti-D at some point, but I think they test you for lots of other things too. I have heard lots of stories about it being a bit of a postcode lottery with the area you are in and some threads on other baby forums have mentioned that my area is pretty bad for not arranging appointments quickly.0 -
My big news of the day is that I told my manager today. I am waiting to tell the people I manage/the office generally until we hear back about the downs screening, but my manager is working from home tomorrow and then has the big meeting on Monday where SMT set our budgets for next year so I wanted her to know her team would be one down for part of the year! It went really well, she hugged me and said she was afraid I was going to resign or tell her our team were in revolt! So that feels like a big weight of my shoulders :T
That's great Pippa! I really don't know when I will tell my work - I am really worried about their reaction...
I think I will leave it until after Xmas, so I will be about 14 or 15 weeks when our office reopens after NY. I don't think I would be able to hide it much longer anyway. I think at least one of my colleagues is suspicious as I've been really ill and she keeps looking at my stomach (I have major bloat - but it does look a bit like a baby bump!) I am so nervous about telling my bosses!!! Any tips?0 -

I was really nervous about telling my boss and one of the best bits of advice I was given was 'don't apologise'!! You have nothing to apologise for and have not done anything 'wrong'. I tried to make it as positive as possible... I told her when I was about 10 weeks as I needed to arrange the time off for the scan and wouldn't have been able to take annual leave on that date. Usually I get really nervous verbal diarrhoea and can't shut up but I just said I wanted a word with my boss and our HR lady (very small company so they are the two 'main' people to tell) and then said 'I've got some news which I wanted to let you know - I'm pregnant'. And then let the silence just hang for a bit!!!
Speaking of work - I cannot WAIT for my maternity leave to start next year. My boss is being even more of a nightmare now that I am pregnant, but in a very subtle way so I can't really pinpoint anything specific. She has also started asking me what I'll do after maternity leave and whether I'll come back full time or part time... which I know she is not supposed to do so I am just avoiding her stupid questions. What she doesn't know is I will never go back to that job!
I've been very naughty at work today and spent half the morning researching when I can start my maternity leave, how much pay I'll get etc.
I suppose I should move over to the next thread soon - I'll be 13 weeks on Monday. Will still lurk on here though0 -
Thank you for the advice! I just called the midwife clinic there and they don't answer the phones on a Friday. Brilliant. How ridiculous!0

Hello. Sorry you’ve been having problems getting an appointment, lovecake. It must be so frustrating.
I had my scan on Wednesday, and everything seems ok, though I haven’t had my test results back yet. I was so relieved to see there was something there, that I don’t think I fully appreciated what I was seeing, if that makes sense? I want another one now so I can just enjoy it!
I’m slowly starting to tell people, and it feels really weird saying ‘I’m pregnant’ out loud as it’s been this big secret for so long! I think I’m going to tell work on Monday as it’s our team Christmas meal, and I’d rather tell them before I go on leave as I’m sure it will be visibly obvious if I wait until the new year.
I’m also guilty of working out maternity leave and what I’m entitled to, mrsj28. I think it’s going to get harder to concentrate at work, the closer it gets to that time!0 -
Emily - great news about your scan! Hope telling work on Monday goes well0

Hi all,
Great to see that people are having sucsessful scans and are migrating to the next thread!
My OH had her second "first" scan this morning, measuring 13.3 weeks now (around 7.5cm) and thankfully all the measurments/tests are coming back as low/no risk so far. Great to see the little 'un again and that its developing as it should be doing.
So, I will be migrating to the other thread myself now, and hope that I will see you all there soon! Good luck all0 -
Congrats Emily!
Lovecake - I made a time to speak to my manager (said I needed a quick catch up ahead of her prep for the away day next week). Then I got a bit nervous when we actually sat down and after a moment's silence I just blurted out 'I'm having a baby!'. I then went on to say what my plan is for leave and returning, and which projects will need handover (and who I think should take them on). So I think I sounded positive and well organised. Then we had a general chat and that was it.
This came a day late for me - http://careers.guardian.co.uk/how-to-announce-pregnancy-news
I am 13 weeks today so should really migrate over too - will still lurk here and look forward to seeing you all on the next thread!0 -
Oh, that sounds like a good way to do it! Well done!
I managed to get through to the hospital and they said if I wanted to change my appointment it would have to be into the new year which means I would be over 14 weeks so that's that. It's going to totally muck up our plans for Christmas and we're just going to have to go back and forward between where we live and where our families are further north (Scotland), probably in awful weather, for these bloody appointments. Don't get me wrong - I am so grateful for the NHS, but come off it - 24th and 27th December!! That is just sh*t! So mad right now!
