Equiniti - is this a legitimate letter?

I have been dealing with Equiniti over dividend shares which haven't been cashed over the years ( 10 years). I had all the cheques, returned them and asked them to re-issue a cheque. They sent me a number of smaller cheques and charged an average of £13.50 per cheque. Not happy with this as I had all the cheques anyway. Have written to them asking for the charges to be refunded.0

I know exactly what this is about. It is legit. What happened is that one of the shares in a company they were looking after for you (or your dependant) was bought out in 2009. Payment for this was received in two parts. Most people cash the first payment, but the subsequent payment was on the back of page two of the final statement. A lot of people, including me, failed to notice the attached cheque.0

I received one of these letters and phoned them that morning. I got a taped message more or less reading the contents of te letter to me over the phone. There was no option to talk to a "real" person. I then emailed them at esfl@equiniti.com asking what I should do next. This was on 8th March and to date they have not replied.
I don't believe any of it!!!0 -
hi after reading thru all the threads im askin on behalf of my elderly neighbour. she has also received a letter from EQUINITI addressed to THE PERSONAL REPRESENTATIIVE OF....(HER MOTHERS NAME). Known to her her mother received shares in a will from her sister way back in 1997 and she hasnt cashed them in so these shares have now been passed on to my neighbour thru the mothers will. She received a letter sometiime last year asking for the details etc etc she sent the documents off (without copying them or makiing note of the reference no's. She did not hear anything from the company till this morning and the letter is very much similar to the one GUSTYGARDENGALAXY POSTED but goes like this ** if you are the personal representative of the asset owner (s), it is important that you make contact with EFSL in writing within 28days of the date of the letter. Please note that we will NOT be able to release this entitlement to beneficiaries until you have provided (AN ORIGINAL) UK GRANT OF REPRESENTATION or an office copy. Documentds returned within 3 business days (excuding day of receipt) When submitting the documents, it is important you use the enclosed envelope quoting the ref no.**
fact is she has already done this last yr and didnt recieve anythin back (document wise) so has no ref no to fall back on. she tried to phone them but they wont disclose anything over the phone. What can she do next how does she go about claiming etc etc0 -
Is your neighbour her late mother's PR?0

I also received one of these weird letters recently. My mother died a few years ago and only had a small estate so I didn't need to go to probate, so don't have a grant of representation etc, etc and don't particularly feel the need to get one.
What do I do about this then? I mean will they accept a copy of her death certificate and utility bills from me?
Mum had only 100 shares in the (then) Abbey national which dividends are paid into our then joint account and at some point I was going to get small estates form and deal with it that way, so is this new company going to try and block that so they can get their cut?
I don't believe she had any other shares as I've been trough her paperwork with a fine tooth comb and this is it.
Like others on here I didn't take kindly to this letter at all.0 -
Bumping up in case anyone has any advice?0

I received the same disgustingly written letter today from Equiniti regarding my dear late Wife. I am very confused. Why ? because she passed away nearly 4 years ago. The address is a business park near to my home in Sussex, the telephone number 0121 415 0294 is in Birmingham West Midlands and all I got when I called them was an answering machine with even more demands of me. Trying to deal with this and the underlined stupid threats has left me emotionally drained. I will not pursue this any further and await the next activity.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I haven't touched my Mums old Abbey shares as A) the dividends get paid into my account anyway, and
It upsets me every time I think about doing anything with them.
I certainly didn't take kindly to the awful blunt way in which this letter was worded, and I have no desire to have some tracing agent sent to pester me further just so they can con me into transferring any monies through them and thus racking off some cash themselves.0
