Quick question about inductions:
why are they necessary? Why can't the baby just come when it's ready - are there medical reasons for the intervention?
xDxFear is temporary, regret is forever.....:happyhear Baby girl born 27th September - 10 days late!! :happyhear0 -
Sorry to hear your in so much pain
What have they told you when you've had the previous internals? If its the same as a sweep, I've had 3 attempted sweeps now, and it was only the last one that I could walk afterwards without doing a john wayne impression! This midwife told me to put ankles together and let knees fall apart naturally, she got me into a much better position than the other midwifes and was also the first one that actually reached my cervix, I know it wont help your pain, but at least if they knew what was going on, they may be able to help more?x
Well the internals were pretty much as you say. Ankles together let knees fall apart. But the last time she tried to give me one it was discovered I had thrush and that was pure agony! She never got near my cervix either. I was told they could keep me in for monitoring or I could go home and come back if worse.
They don't seem to know where the pains are coming from if i'm honest. The first internal they insisted I had a water infection (I knew I did NOT!) but they kept me in overnight and sent me home with antibiotics which I took regardless thinking they knew best. Second internal it seems the swab results from the previous week showed that I had thrush yet she still insisted on doing the internal. OWWWWWWW is all I can say.
The worrying part was if they knew I had thrush - WHEN were they going to let me know?!!!! Cos if I hadn't gone back in the week later no one bothered to call or send a letter home to tell me!
Anyhow... the thrush cleared up and jobs a good un. That sort of pain eased off and disappeared. But all the initial pains that sent me there in the first place are still as yet unexplained. I was sent home with Co Codamol, antibiotics, pessary and cream and anti sickness drugs and the pains remain.
Either way... i'm not allowed to go into natural labour and it can be quite dangerous if I do. So I do sit here and worry about how seriously they are taking my pains and whether I should be asking for a second opinion!Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -
well nowt again for me apart from BH and poohing everytime I go the loo (sorry for TMI!). I can feel the baby moving lots *down there* and I get pains when I am lying down in bed, assuming this is to do with the SPD as its mainly on the left hand side.
I'm very jealous of all those who are ahead of me so I am mentally telling myself I am actually 38 weeks on Wednesday, therefore will have two more weeks to go.:(:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -

I think after a certain amount of time the placenta starts degrading which may put baby in danger - I don't really know all of the facts but I think that is why most midwives advise induction at term+14 days.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Hi everyone
I'm now at 30 weeks and had my first anenatal class this weekend. £200!!!!!!!!! as the only thing the GWH does is a Q&A session.
There were 8 couples in all and everyone was lovely and chatty. DH was worried that he'd find it a waste of time but ended up quite enjoying the day and feels better about the whole labour and the fact that he can do stuff to help me feel comfortable.
We went through a textbook labour and saw pictures which showed how squished all our poor organs are. Also talked quite a lot about how society and the media colours our expectation of labour.
Going for a two hour class on Weds to look at pain relief in more detail.
Thought people might find this interesting.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
Phase 1 - Emergency Fund - Complete :j
Phase 2 - £20,000 Mortgage Fund - Underway0 -
Charlie - that must be really difficult for you, I hope they take the pains seriously. If you do get too worried maybe you should ask for a second opinion.
Bella - i have seen some positive stories of induction on another forum i go on. I think is hard not to worry when you read the scary stories.
Teenie - hope the white trousers mean something happens hehe.
Vroom- we are first after bold ladies now! I keep saying to myself should have baby in next two weeks which makes me feel a bit better
Smlsave - glad the class was worth it and your DH enjoyed it.0 -

Early induction is usually done because there is a risk of pre eclampsia, this was my reason for being induced however by day 4 and nothing still happening they finally done a blood test which showed that I didn't have PE so they really should have left me. obviously PE is really dangerous so yeah inductions should be done for this reason. Other reasons could be low birth weight or if your waters have gone but there is no sign of labour or for severe SPD. I'm sure there are other reasons also.
Like Apricot said the placenta eventually will stop doing it's job so that is the reason they induce 10-14 days (+ in some cases) after your EDD.
One of my midwifes said that she thought inductions were being carried out too readily especially for first time mums and she didn't really agree with it unless it was absolutely necessary.
So far my SIL and 2 friends have been induced early (6 occasions between them all) and there was not one problem, guess I was just unlucky and my DD was too comfy:D

Morning everyone, just thought i'd post a little 4D scan pic. It was a freeview as we got a gender scan so not really clear but i would totally recommend babybond.

Hi still lurking on here and my LO is nearly 5mths. I was induced when 10 days over and when they examined me before I was given a pessary they said I was unfavourable for induction. I had 3 pessaries and nothing happened (no contractions and didn't dilate) I then was given a section (which was what I wanted all along, so I was very happy).
If I wanted a natural birth, at the point I was told I was unfavourable, I would have refused induction and went home and returned to be checked in a few days. I agree that they are too quick to induce these days.0 -
hi all, just updating that poppy was born 9.35am on 13th april by emergency section. she is gorgeous and feeding well. 9lb 9oz at birth. we are still in hospital so havent read back. sorry about short message but on the very slow patientline system. love to all xAmelia Grace finally emerged at 20:27 at 8lb 8oz and after the longest 2 1/2 minutes with the doctor we were finally able to hold our daughter.
Two alarms had been sounded at the same time so we were then told that our daughter would be spending the next 48 hours in neonatal, before we were told that due to the clash of alarms we had the others notes!
Not happy with the way things went around 15 minutes following birth, as the midwife who had taken over at 6 suddenly clocked off and left Nic sat without her stitches done, nor cleaned up the room or even weighed the baby and went home. It was nearly 9.45 before someone arrived to help her breast feed, stitch her, etc. Despite me going looking for our midwife.
I'm at home now as shes staying in at least tonight, and Nic is still sat in the labour ward with the final midwife who is completing the forms.
Congrats to Dipsy, Keith and Chicky on your new bundles  I'm not going to read any birth stories as I am getting close myself now, but hope mothers and babies are all well xx
I can't remember what else I was going to write now. I read back but my mind is a blank :rotfl:
Labour vibes to VB and Wendz and all boldies I've not mentioned :rotfl:
I've been having loose poos and pains down below which feels like a fist is trying to be pushed from my insides into my foof, which I can only imagine (and hope!) is bub's head engaging further. Lots of BH's, but nothing to get excited about. 38 weeks tomorrow.
My mum came over for the weekend which was nice but I felt quite grumpy and fed up TBH. Was in a lot of pain Saturday as had a !!!!!! night's sleep, but had a nice BBQ in the evening. OH's parents came round too. Then went to look at fish yesterday and had another BBQ round his parents after. Had a better day yesterday.
Got last antenatal class tonight, doing some final tidying up in the old house tomorrow night after OH's work, then he's handing the keys back Wednesday. Glad to be shot of that house. Then he has a nice long weekend so we want to finally get the nursery sorted. Mum slept in there over the weekend so just as well we didn't do it before.
I won some stuff for the nursery on eBay last Sunday, paid straight away, but she didn't post until Thursday. Then it was delivered while I was out Saturday :mad::mad: after I had been in all day all week. So had to arrange for redelivery (can't get to post office myself) and closest they can do it is Weds, so not too pleased with this eBayer to be honest. But should be here for us to finish nursery.
Better go and hang my washing out now, which will take me a while, then need to measure my car's rear windows so I can get some sun shades sorted.
Need to get measured for nursing bras at the weekend, get some muslins and some baby towels and a new mattress for the moses basket. Then that's us sorted I think. I desperately need a hair cut so will try and get one then too.0
