breast pads I got the tesco ones... they were as good as any.

pads... you can get slim maternity ones now so you don't have to have the ones like pillows! I got 1 pack of the thick pads (hospital like them as they give a better idea of loss) and 2 packs of slim pads.. and 2 apcks of disp. pants.. I have 2 packs of pads upstairs and a pack of pads.. I used normal pads from bodyform after the first 3 days when it is ridiculously heavy.

If you intend to breastfeed get a tube of lansinoh and use it from day one.. whether you need it or not.. prevention is better than cure!

I bought the Tesco stuff too including the disposable pants but I bought them in a bigger size to normal as they are a paper type fabric and won't stretch too well. :D :rotfl:

I did the grand total of putting up 2 shelves and a hanging rail in the kitchen today as the youngsters had gone out with my sister and BIL today and am now totally knackered and feel like I have been beaten up :o

I am still here, still having the odd pain but thats it. Pains seem to get worse when i have a wee, not sure why? OH is back but gone to bed as tired bless him lol.

Is a full moon tonight and apparently means that more women go into labour so sending labour vibes to all those that need them!

Vroom - diohreeh (cannot spell it!) can be a sign of things to come so fingers crossed for you.
  • Hi ladies, hope you are all keeping well.

Ive been a bit tired today, had a nap but still tired so going to head to bed in a bit but not sure I will sleep as I keep waking all night!

Bought a little outfit from Sainsbury's yesterday, hoping to use it as our little guys coming home from hospital outfit. Its a blue t-shirt with a blue and white cardigan with blue trousers and is so sweet, I just hope we can get the t-shirt on him lol. :D

Have been having a few problems in the ahem below area. Think I may have thrush? Not sure as Ive never had it before but so sore and itchy (sorry tmi)! Looks like doctors on tuesday anyway.

Have only got 4 more days at work and 2 of those should be shorter days. Am wondering what Im going to do on my time off but I guess I could (read SHOULD) get the house in order before baby arrives lol! Got the kitchen cleaned today so that was some progress :)

Congrats to the recent mummies, your baby is gorgeous chicky!

Oh indeed.. definitely get a bigger size than your clothes.. it isn't just they have little stretch but also you get a bit waterlogged and swollen so the extra room is needed!

    Hello All,

Congratulations to the new mummies :T:T:T.

Hugs to those of you who are uncomfortable or feeling poorly.

An update from me- not written anything for a while- I pop in and read some of your posts but been very busy with work and could never read back all of whats been posted. Also my memory is not as good as normal (never that great tbh) and I can't remember everything I've read by the time I get to the end.:rotfl::rotfl:.

So whats new? I had my last day at work Friday, two weeks holiday and then maternity leave officially starts after mayday bank holiday. I'm 35 weeks now and pretty healthy really, can't complain. Was truly shattered though by the end of working week- so glad to finish.
However during my last week at work, my department were told that one of us has to go- compulsory redundancy unless one of us gets another job and so I have to basically reapply for my own job on the most horrific form I've ever seen.
I'll find out if I'm the one being given the boot one week before baby is due. Devastated- have hardly slept for a week- and on my penultimate day in work had to be sent home because I couldn't stop crying. Feel like I've been kicked in the gut by management. I'm a teacher, of a core subject with one of the most popular A-level choices, so we have some of the biggest class sizes in the school. Its only by last minute changes to the timetable structure that they can afford to lose one of us- so its a shock. I've been so focused on finishing the course with my GCSE and A-level classes before I left working til late in the evening despite my tiredness so I just feel betrayed.
However I'm trying to focus on the baby- and I am feeling better now I've had a restful weekend.

Oh fluffy that is so naff!!! Fill in the form.. I don't think they can make you redundant while on maternity leave can they? It will all turn out right in the end.. and ou can't change anything so just stick with doing your best, give the form your all and so long as you know you have given it your best shot that is all that maters.. you can find a job elsewhere when ML ends.. you can apply while on ML.. we had a teacher offered a position while on ML and got a supply in for a term until the new teacher could start.. she was worth waiting for.. as are you.. Get the form out of the way ASAP.. then don't give it a second thought! (((huge hugs)))

Below is a piece I wrote for another forum, you may want to ignore this post and move on to the next as it's quite graphic, perhaps it should be in birth stories but it's not the full story that will come soon.

I've spoiler tagged it so you need to click and drag to read it.

    Hey,

I intended to leave this thread but I posted this on another forum last night and sat and cried whilst I wrote it. It was rewritten a number of times. As it was a "blokes forum" I removed the part about sitting holding our baby whilst on my knees whilst crying.

The birth was induced due to pre-eclampsia, it all kicked off on Thursday, I've had a s*it time at work recently and the wife was due to be "swept" at the midwife so I took Thursday off work to work on the car and then go to the midwife with Nicola. At 2pm, her blood pressure was high which is a sign of pre-eclampsia and so we were sent to the hospital for a check up.

By 5pm, shes told she is to be induced so we go and lie on a bed in the maternity unit whilst we wait for a bed in delivery. I head home at 6 to get the car out of the hospital carpark as their charges are stupid, £30 for an overnight stay! On returning shes had a "sweep".

Amelia finally appeared at 20:27, but what followed was the longest 2.5 minutes of my life as she didn't respond, breathe or cry. The alarms went and doctors filled the room. The baby resus unit had been removed in the afternoon as "we wouldn't need it" and as the baby lay blue between Nicolas legs with no one actually touching her, one of the midwives went running down the hall to find another. I reacted well to this with "Where the f*** is the resus unit and find one f***ing now" whilst trying to hide the fact our lifeless child lay on the bed between Nicolas legs. Watching the doctor work on Amelia with the little oxygen mask on was heart breaking and I hope none of you ever experience those moments. Then a midwife gives the doctor "our" babies notes and we are told that she will need to go to Neonatal (intensive care) for at least 48 hours, then the midwife gives the doctor another set of notes and the doctor apologies for the error and we'll be going back to maternity.

Hearing her cry was the best moment of my life and shortly after I sat holding her for the first time was amazing.

I came home at midnight, but Nicola stayed in. Amelia was taken to special baby unit (intensive care) at 2am with breathing difficulties. Nicola tells me that it was such a sad place with tiny babies including the other baby from earlier who is we are told in a very bad way sad.gif

Amelia has spent today on observation, her little hands covered in marks from blood tests and has an IV line in her hand for antibiotics as they aren't sure what is causing the breathing issues. When I left at 8.30 she had now been stable and meeting the criteria of "healthy baby" for 4 hours, she's not had an observation since but I wait for a text from Nicola.

Nicola is now fine, her blood pressure has returned to normal. Both mum and baby will stay in hospital for the time being whilst they give her the anti-biotics.

Keith smile.gif[/quote]Now, 24 hours on, we wait on the final blood results. Observations have been reduced and on the surface baby appears to be fine. Each visit from the doctor is hard, I went to the "nursery" tonight whilst he took blood and it was so hard to watch our baby cry whilst he did it. She sucked my little finger whilst in the pain he was causing her. She now is pooing a lot due to the medication.

Hopefully tomorrow those results will be back.

Thanks for posting your story Keith. You've brought a tear to my eye. I can't imagine what those few minutes must of felt like.
So glad to hear both your wife and Amelia are doing better. You've all been through a lot.
