The paternity pay is only £100 something a week anyway, so he would probably be better off taking it as holiday.

He was going to do both. 2 weeks paternity and 2 weeks holiday, he hasnt got enough holiday to do all 4 weeks as that. Oh well on the plus side at least he is able to have some time at home with us, 2 weeks is better than nothing!

  • We are both self employed so I only get the MA (dropping 70% income) and OH gets no paternity pay. As OH was out of work for the majority of my pregnancy we've not built up any of the reserve I was banking on so I'm staying at work till 36wks and we are going to be a long way into our overdraft by the time I go back. Still planning to take at least 9 months leave but the money situation is seriously . Going to look into the KIT days as if I can do 10 paid days during my ML that would be a BIG help financially.

Got 2wks and 2 days left at work and I'm really struggling now, was asleep by about 9 last night and won't be much later tonight this is the time I wish I had a normal job in an office rather than being a decorator.

Puzzled - Septemeber will be here before you know it!

alwayspuzzled - i am not surprised you are tired doing a job like that. Wasn't so bad doing an office job and i was fed up at the end!

Hi guys have lurked on this thread before but never posted, just wondered if any of you girls could help me, I have a question about maternity pay?

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have formally notified my employer in writing.
I work for a small franchise and my contract is with my employer, she has been a bit off with me since I told her that I was pregnant and so I am determined to do everything by the book

My employer has replied to my letter in writing stating when we will have a health and safety meeting which I requested asmy job involves alot of lifting and carrying heavy equipment. However she has also stated that as I get paid weekly by cash my maternity pay will be paid the same way and I will have to drive over to her every Friday to collect it or pay any costs invlved in her getting it to me. Normally we would get paid on our last day of work that week in person. I have to ask is she allowed to do this, or is she discriminating because I would be on maternity leave?

Sorry to prattle on but wanted to try and get all the facts down

Many Thanks for your help in advance

Sorry MrsT I really don't have the first idea about employment law and have no idea what the rules are for your situation. :(. Could you maybe call your local CAB tomorrow who will definitely know what to do :D

Caelshorn your pic is lovely! :D. Did you ask about gender or are you staying team yellow?

Yeah, what I meant was he may as well just take off the two weeks holiday, as the paternity pay is very poor. I know we couldn't survive for two weeks on that as bills still need to be paid, whether we have a new baby or not.

    Morning all,

    Yay for 38 weeks Nic!

MrsT - I don't know the rules but that does seem unfair so i agree with koala that you should call someone to try and find out.

Hope everything went well for Alfalfa.
