Ok ladies,
Braxton Hicks question time.
For the past couple of days since hitting 34 weeks i am getting very mild stomach cramping. Maybe 3 times a day and more like a dodgy tummy cramp than a period pain. Now tmi sorry but i have been constipated all through pregnancy but since this cramping started my bowels have been regular again.
Is any of this ringing any braxton bells or is it just my stomach rushing digesting food?
Any clues lol.
ps 34 week scan went well baby estimated 5lb 10ish atm eeek lol. Now i just have the fun of booking my 36 week midwife appointment. Left message yesterday and still no call back doesnt suprise me much shes never been a good call returner.Baby Girl Born May 2011Baby Boy Born Nov 2012

Welcome eyelinerprincess I have no clue about gerbils but I have two cats and my OH was concerned about the risk of toxoplasmosis from their faeces but after speaking to midwife he was satisfied that I couldn't actually catch anything without ingesting the faeces of the cats which gloves/handwashing would prevent (so can't see it being any different for the gerbils tbh)
Sorry alamaya Im not that far yet so have no idea about braxton hicks!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
The whole braxton hicks thing confuses me! I am not sure whether i have had them or not. I have had some cramping last couple of weeks but i think it is meant to be tightenings?
Glad the scan went well alamaya.0 -

I thought I'd be desparate for a wee by the time I reached the midwife but it wasn't too bad at all - I explained to DD this morning why I was drinking fizzy pop and not my usual cuppa and that I had to try not to go to the loo till I reached the midwife.
To my embarrasment when I left her at the school gates she shouted out 'Bye mum, love ya, hope you don't wet yourself on the way to the midwife':rotfl:Gotta love her

Hi all,
Congrats PC and Annibee! Hope you are settling in to enjoying the little ones and can show us some more piccies...
Vroom good luck with HR - as others have said, don't think my boss knows about it and I don't think these days will be needed anyway as I will have maternity cover so not too worried.
I work full time but am also self employed, does anyone know if this affects SMP? I think I remember someone mentioned I could claim £100 per month on self employed tax return, for every month I am on SMP, is that right or have I totally got that wrong...
SMP is paid by an employer. As you are self employed the only thing you would be entitled to is Maternity Allowance (MA) paid at the rate of £124.88 per week for 39 weeks. There is a test period where you had to have paid NI Class 2 payments for X amount of weeks. Would be worth you looking into this now as if you have an exemption certificate the amount you can claim drops to £27 a week.
I did my taxes in January and decided not to get the exemption certificate and pay the NI contributions up for the whole year. But £200 was cheap considering what i'll be getting in return.
Hope it helps.Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -
Congratulations annibee on the birth of Tyler, what a good size. Glad you are both doing well. Hopefully not long for you Dipsy. I was due yesterday so am 1 day over. I may have the baby tomorrow, went to clinic today and my blood pressure was high and there was high levels of protein and leukocytes in my urine. Midwife took bloods and sent urine sample off. She is visiting me in the morning with results and to take my blood pressure again. If I have an infection i may have the baby tomorrow. Fingers crossed its nothing too bad. Was in hospital at 32 weeks because of a kidney infection. How is everyone else doing I got my feet up an the bambino is happily moving. Take care all X0

I've been having Braxton Hicks this pregnancy since about 18/19 weeks. They're not cramps as in they don't feel like period cramps or tummy ache cramps.
They're very gradual, noticeable but not painful, almost like if you can imagine someone slowly blowing up a balloon, and then slowly letting it out again, but that balloon is your womb. Does that make sense? Your whole bump goes hard. Also, the later on in pregnancy you get, if you and your OH have some 'bedroom activity' you will notice your bump going hard in response to the, erm, excitementand that can trigger braxton hicks.
Some people don't feel them at all in a first pregnancy, and then apparently they get more and more noticeable each pregnancy, and they get more and more noticeable the later in pregnancy you get.
Hope that helps.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

I've been getting BH for a couple of weeks, they only seem to last around 10 seconds at a time. Quite a strange feeling. And yes, sex really does set them offWife and mother :jGrocery budget

eyelinerprincess wrote: »Hi guys, just found out last week I am PG, coming up to 8 weeks at estimate. I had a question as OH is doing my head in:
We have two gerbils in the bedroom, and he's going on and on about getting rid of them, nothing I've found has pointed to being able to catch anything if following proper hygiene (washing hands, gloves etc), but nothing will shut him up. Anyone heard anything about any risks involved with having gerbils while PG?
They are fine, as long as you wash your hands as normal after touching them.
I have 7 guinea pigs and two cats amongst hundreds of tropical fish, and have been fine. My OH cleans the cat box out to reduce the risk even further.
Welcome, by the way0 -
You are more likely to get toxoplasmosis from the park or from peeling unwashed vegetables than from a pet.. Most people have had contact and no syptoms anyway so I'd not worry about a couple of gerbils! I have 6 cats, 3 fish and 2 rabbits.. and a whole tribe of grubby children.. what do I get?
