We did consult an IFA but he keeps sending me quotes for loads of stuff and not explaining the difference between each policy and why I would need certain policies and not others. He also phones and leaves about 7 messages daily on my answer machine..... really off putting. Would I be as well waiting untill baby is born so I can say that I would like the money to go to them? Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

Hi LabLover, have you read Martin's bit about Life Assurance? I'm sure that would help you out.
I know that even if they call it life insurance its actually assurance as its assured that you're going to die (one day). It sounds like the IFA you saw is pretty much usless, I'd suggest telling him to stop contacting you and to find another one.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Um well I'm no expert in this. There must be a bit of the forum with experts. He sounds like a commission based one, did you pay a fee?
You need the big picture IMHO. What DH and I did was mirror wills, so each of our wills says the same. Basically we have left about half the money/house to each other and the other half to the kids, but with the proviso that the survivor of us parents gets to stay in the house as long as needed. The life insurance money goes, if I remember rightly, to pay off the mortgage and then be split in the same way?
I can't remember properly, but I would def get a solicitor to do it, only cost us about £80 I think. The main thing is make sure kid/s provided for and not just financially, and also plan so that if your estate goes over the tax threshold (£325 k?) then you minimise it's value to avoid paying tax.
Like I said, I'm no expert!!Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -

I think he must be , because he has been all over us like a rash, by the time OH and I get dog walked , tea made etc , we dont sit down till like 9.30 and by then we have had loads of missed calls. Think Im going to phone him tonight and tell him we arent interested and speak with another FA that we know of in the town. Have started recruiting for my replacement people keep saying " o are you not bothered?" "does it not seem weird? " but to be honest since I pee'd on the stick and saw the two lines nothing has felt real or normal , lolThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
