Morning ladies and bumps and new babies! What a lovely day it is today.

Just had a quick look over the last few pages and want to say a huge congrats to the new mummies- well done!

Just about to go out shopping (highlight of my weekend, maternity leave is rather unexciting...) and me and OH were just talking about milk for our imminent arrival. I'm going to give breastfeeding a go but if it doesn't work out for me and the baby we're going to bottle feed. Got my steriliser, bottles, teats etc but just realised I have no clue what milk formula we should get! Can anyone suggest what they think is best??? Like I say, breastfeeding will be tried but if it doesn't work out for us I'd like to have some formula in the house so my baby doesn't go hungry! Any suggestions ladies???

    Hi,
I would suggest getting just a few of the ready made cartons to start you off-a whole box of powdered milk is almost £9  and at least you will have some should you need to give bubs the odd feed through the night-you could always send oh out to get a box if you find you are going to need it, so you dont waste it by opening a biox just to give the odd couple of feeds as -I cant remember how long you can keep it for once opened???

Alfalfa- I started off BF both mine and stopped after a couple of months with DD and only a couple of weeks with DS.

For DD I used SMA and DS I used Cow & Gate. I believe they are all pretty much the same. Some babies don't get on with certain formulas so don't buy too many just incase.

I plan to BF again and if I give up I'll use C&G simply as it's slightly cheaper.
Aptimal is about £1 dearer than the rest.

It's great your giving BF a go, if you need to go get formula I'd just pick the 1 tin and see how baby takes to it. Hth

I was thinking of Cow and Gate, I've heard quite a few ppl say good things about it and my sister used it for my niece and nephew. Thanks for the help, think we'll get one tin today and see how things go x

Morning ladies, what a busy day for announcements yesterday, have just about caught up.
Congrats kaylzbob and DueMarch. Sammy, i hope your silence is meaning things have progressed for you.
I think we have decided on a name, if someone can add it next time the lis gets done. (i'm struggling to do anything with only one spare arm :) )

Here's another pic of Henry James, named after mine and dh's grandads, i know they both would have loved to have met him.

what a lovely name (and meaning) jojo.

we used cow&gate milk for DS1 for no reason other then it was cheapest (by a few pence). just got one to stock up for DS2 then realised in tesco flyer SMA is now over £1 cheaper.... ohhh welll. C&G cartons make brill storage for dusters/ bibs/ spoons/ dummmies/ muslin cloths.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

Jojo - that picture is amazing! He is absolutely gorgeous!

I can't remember if I congratulated everyone or not but it won't hurt to do it again:

Congratulations Jojo, Duemarch & Kaylzbob - hope things have moved along for sammy!

Alfalfa I will probably buy a few cartons of Aptamil or Cow & Gate - I remember someone saying that SMA produces smelly sick! I will probably only get a few cartons though just in case it doesn't agree with bubs. Don't want to be stuck with a whole box full!

I used aptamil for mine in conjunction with breastfeeding.

SMA was like white water and I may as well not bothered feeding them. We used Cow and Gate when the Aptamil was recalled one time and it made mine sicky and have a runny bum. I used Farleys (heinz) for DS1.. do they still even make it? lol

I use Aptamil because im a sucker for advertising. People say its the best so i believe them :rotfl:

Also, the SMA was a yellowy colour and made Lily sick. So i refused to use it lol.

    Im 32 weeks today! :j
Only 8 weeks left, cant wait to meet my boy :)

Jojo- beautiful picture and lovely name, I'm sure your Grandads would have loved to meet him.

I got my bag from Argos, looks like should fit everything so will try later. I still need to get an outfit together for leaving hospital. So far i only have the jogging bottoms.
