    Afternoon ladies :D

Can't really add much more to the b/feeding questions really. I breast fed exclusively for 6 weeks then started expressing and tbh if I hadn't I would probably have given up earlier than I did (I b/fed for 8months until I went back to work) as it is really tiring (DD was up 3-4times a night feeding) it was a bit laborious at times, which is why I have an electric one this time ;) but it was worth it for me.

DH would take the evening feed (which I was told he shouldn't be doing as I should do the last feed and for him to get up during the night but we didn't want to do it that way), and he done the night feeds at the weekend. I still had to express once during the night as my b00bs were just so engorged but that was my milk for the following weekend which we froze so it worked out just fine.

I did eventually go onto formula for the last feed at night as all of a sudden she would start feeding then nothing would come out (and yes I was told umpteen times this was absolutely impossible as it's all about supply and demand yadda yadda yadda, but after 2 weeks of persevering/tears/frustration I knew what was best for me and my baby!).

So really you just have to see how your baby feeds and go with the flow, and NEVER feel guilty about how you do things, there is a lot of pressure out there which is all very well and good if you can manage but I have sat in breastfeeding support groups when ladies are coming in week after week in tears as things just aren't working out for them and they are at their wits end, but they are almost made to feel that they had to persevere with it, sorry but bringing up a new baby is hard enough without that sort of pressure!!!

Phew sorry didn't mean to go on like that :o Breastfeeding for me was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed 95% of the time but it's not for eveyone!

Can you ladies just go over my very short birth plan, i have stolen bits from ema_o's (hope you don't mind). Can't think of anything else i need to add, as i'm pretty open minded.
    Birth Plan- Ideal Birth Scenario

    · Active Labour - I want to be able to move around, try different positions that may help me cope with Labour.
    · I would like a Water Birth, if the pool is available.

    · Pain Relief –
    Tens
    Gas and Air
    Water Birth

    · I do NOT want forceps, but may consider ventouse, if necessary
    · I am aware of other pain relief that’s available
    · I am happy for a student to observe, but would ask that they must be able to maintain a calm environment
    · I would like my husband/birth partner to cut the umbilical cord
    · I am happy to have the injection to deliver the placenta.

Please keep me informed of any procedures you are carrying out on me.
If any family/friends call asking how we are getting on, please do NOT tell them anything, the can learn to be patient like I’ve been for the last 9 months :)

    Thanks

    Hi everyone,

Good luck Tickle and we'll wait to hear!

Thanks Lablover for asking about feeding out and about, I wasn't sure either what should be worn as a top!
We are planning on breastfeeding, sounds like alot of people don't get on well with it so we will have to see. For now may get a manual pump if we see one cheap.

At the moment I have been thinking about co-sleeping vs sleeping in own cot - anyone have any thoughts/experience on both?
If we placed baby in cot we would still have them in our room sort of thing for peace of mind, but how long for?

  • I'm not bothering with a breast pump as I found it far too time consuming to express last time, and not very productive! I figure that if it comes to it and I feel I could do with one, I can always buy one after. I maybe only used my pump 3 times in 10 months of breastfeeing. I used the Avent Isis.

I had an electric pump and still couldn't express more than a teaspoonful.

Grateful, Im so jealous of your furbaby , we have a chocco lab shes 8 but doesnt look older than two , lol. People are always surprised when they ask how old our "pup" is lol. OH always says she about drawing her pension. OH was all set to get a pup before we found out about suprise baby , lol. Have promised him as soon as we move to somewhere bigger he can get one, not sure how my wee girl will take to having a doggy companion , she is very much a "human" and is OH's shadow. She also has a very strange tea habit , all visitors have to put there cups up on the window sill , lol

He he. Hope you get one.

sparkle we did co sleeping with DD2, she was not sleeping in her cot, no way. Nor was she sleeping in a moses basket, or anywhere else other than someone's chest, or in someone's arms.

You have to be careful about drink/drugs/tiredness though. How you are careful about tiredness, the Lord only knows!
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

Very similar to mine (well it will be when/if I write it up LOL). I personally can't think of anything more to add but someone else might ;)

I think the ideal length of time is 6 months? I am a bad mother though and toots was in her own room from 3 weeks  We just couldn't sleep with her there as she was so noisy, she was right next door though. This one will be in our room for a while as we have moved house and it's only 2 bedrooms but DD's bedroom is downstairs so we wouldn't even consider having bubs that far away from us (also don't fancy walking up and down stairs in the middle of the night ;)).

I'm not sure about co-sleeping as we have done it on occasions if DD was unwell but it wasn't a regular thing. I'm sure lots of people have done it and got on just fine, I personally wouldn't purely because I probably wouldn't sleep very well with them there but again it's something you probably would get used to.

mmm just read back, sorry that wasn't very helpful was it LOL!!!

Popped home for some lunch and to tickle dogs tummy. Thanks for all the info re-breastfeeding. Very interested in combination feeding but then if you miss a boob feed does your milk get messed up? Was thinking for the times that bubs wakens during the night that bottles would be handy (formula) but does that mean by morning time my boobs will have went dry? Sorry for all the questions, my midwifes and local area are all "breast is best" and its rammed down your throat from the minute you get 2 lines on pregnancy test :o
JoJo I may just steal your birth plan, sounds ideal , I will be adding on mine for OH to be the one to tell me babies flavour , although I would imagine someone will need to wisper it in his ear as my dad made a fatal mistake with the umbilical cord and told my mum she had had another little boy. Nurses werent paying attention and swaddled baby up and handed to my mum.....
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

Lablover - I just got the Avent electric pump for £55 at the babyshow, was a lot cheaper there. Amazon are currently doing it for 60 something which is a lot better than the normal £90 plus. I have read a lot of good reviews for it so was keen to get it.

I was told at my antenatal class that you can keep expressed milk in the fridge for 5 days and the freezer for 6 months.

I wouldn't co-sleep personally as something terrible happened to one of my best friends baby brothers but I am sure a lot of people do it successfully and safely.

I think it may but I was verryyyy lucky in that I always seemed to have milk except for that last feed at night . We kept getting told it's all about supply and demand and your body will make enough for baby so I suppose yes if you started dropping feeds your supply would also drop.
